OK, you are the new Ted Turner and you've decided to televise the game of the week in 4A/5A. Where are you sending your television crew this week and why?

Feel free to break it down however you like.... maybe a Pee Dee game, Midlands game, Upstate game, Lower State game; or maybe you prefer to just do "your region" match ups. The way to make this board better is to have involvement from many folks. I may not agree with your selections, but I bet I read them to see what you have to say!

My first thoughts:

Conway @ Georgetown {with all the off field issues, how will Conway look this year?}

Daniel @ Berkeley {Slick goes for game 2,984,897 I think it is...}

Dutch Fork @ Independence,NC { I wonder if the "WELCOME HOME" banners will be flying for Coach Knotts? }

Fort Dorchester @ Dorman { A Cav fan said the defense needs some work, I got a feeling they could get some Friday }

Myrtle Beach @ Byrnes { New coach, discipline back, talent is there, can he get things back on track and how long will it take}

Spartanburg @ Summerville { I should have planned a trip this weekend; I was about to pick the Wave to win, but Perfectly Franks is closed... where will everyone be meeting before the game? How do they adjust to this drastic off season tragedy?}

But I decided to go with:
Union County @ Chapman { My "GAME OF THE WEEK" and I plan to be there to watch this one. Defending Champions begin the path to Back To Back trophies with a great match up.}

Northwestern @ South Pointe { Second choice, there is just such love between these two, not to mention a field full of talent on both sides of the ball}

Gaffney @ T.L. Hanna { I'm hearing the Injuns are LOOOOOOOOADED and feel like the trophy is going back to Gaffney this year. Hanna was a few plays away from some really big wins last year, maybe this year they get those big breaks.}

Northwestern @ South Pointe

Northwestern will lose to cross town rival South Pointe for the second year in a row.

Many people are saying that the 4A state championship is South Pointe's to lose this year. We shall see. They return a lot of horses.

Northwestern lost a lot of talent across the board on both sides of the ball.

If Northwestern's head coach and offensive coordinator can progress beyond the pee-wee level, they may have a competitive season. If not, then it will be classified as a "rebuilding" year as spin to save face for them.

but I may take a slightly shorter trip and see Slicker's Stags live for the first time.

If the Rebs can improve in the passing game department, they will be right there come December I believe. The defense could easily be the best unit we've had in quite some time. As Coach Shaw said in the paper, "If the guys buy in, we have a chance," Its gonna be a fun year to watch them grow.

I believe Gaffney will have their hands full on Friday with Hanna and their new Wing-T offense. The Indians will improve on defense, I just think this is a bad match-up Week 1 for them.

Conway will be fine I think. The kids have handled the situation very well which shows maturity and character. Carlton Terry is the interim coach and he's the OC. He's a long time assistant and one of the greatest RB's to ever play at Conway. This has the potential to be the best team Conway has ever had if things fall into place. Veteran team and multiple D1 prospects. There O linemen have multiple offers. Two are committed to western Kentucky and Rutgers. Sophomore DE Tonka Hemingway is going to be a national recruit with two SEC offers from USC and Georgia along with Clemson. We may have a losing season or we could be a serious challenger in the lower state. The potential is certainly there for a group that went to the third round last year. Time will tell.

Where do things stand now?

The school board left it up to the principal and AD if he's reinstated. The charges were dropped but there is some in the community that want him to retire. I feel like a deal is being worked out for reinstatement and retirement in one. His Terri plan is up in November and he has to retire. This was going to be his last year anyway. We will see how CT handles this year and see if he's a candidate for the job full time. We will be hiring an AD because we have an interim until Jordan retires. Should be an interesting year.

Hopefully my Green Wave can put out the Blue Flame on Friday Night.

I might try to head over and check out Myrtle Beach at Byrnes on Saturday.
That should be an interesting game on Saturday.
