Re: DOODLES WEEK 6
T.L. Hanna 234.8 Easley 190.7 22
Well, count me in as one of the ones who thinks T L Hanna is the only team that prevent the Jackets from being 10-0 and Region Champions. It appears that as long as they continue to do what they have been doing all year, they are the cream of the crop in Region One…. Maybe even further. Last week I said that I would take Easley and the 17 points against Greenville; sorry Jack, I wouldn’t touch this one with only 22 points.
Westside 215.8 Woodmont 188.2 14
Westside played with Spartanburg for about 15 minutes last Friday night, then they went home and some zombies took their place. It was 13-8 and the Rams has 1st and 10 at the Viking 43? Yard Line after recovering an onside kick. Next thing I know, it is 4th and 35 and then it was 37-8 and I was on the way to the house. If those guys who played the first 15 minutes had stayed, it may have been a good game. If Woodmont is getting 14 points by the computer, then the computer is expecting those guys to stay the entire game.
Greenwood 228.5 Wade Hampton (G) 193.1 18
Greenwood and Hanna game was supposed to be a one score game. Well it didn’t turn out to be that way. I think Wade Hampton will feel the wrath from last Friday Night’s game and Greenwood will get things back on track quickly and “FIRMLY” in control.
Hillcrest 209.3 Laurens 195.9 7
Laurens and Hillcrest have some common ground to compare the two teams; for example the games against Dorman. If that tells us anything, it tells us that the scoreboard lightbulbs need to be fairly new ones before game time Friday because they could be changing a lot. I don’t think this will be a 10-7 game. I expect a lot of scoring and maybe the last team to score wins?
Mauldin 230.3 Riverside 157.6 36
Mavericks get as close to a BYE week that you can get in Region Play. Riverside has the lowest computer ranking of the 5A schools and frankly, has not looked competitive against even 3A schools. Football is not a point of emphasis at Riverside and it shows.
Boiling Springs 230.7 Dorman 221.7 5
Region Three begins with two great games. There are no off weeks on the Region Schedule for these teams and this one is showing as a 5 point margin for the Bulldogs, but I doubt many would be surprised if the Cavs win. I said all 5 teams finish at 2-2 back in August, but some folks thought I was joking. Well at the time I wasn’t joking, I was serious. If you can manage to win your 2 games at home, you’ve done a pretty good job. If I had to pick a winner here, heads for the home team, tails it’s the visiting team.
James F. Byrnes 241.2 Spartanburg 229.5 6
Now there won’t be much excitement at Nixon Field Friday night, you think? It’s just a match up of Chris Miller’s current team against his former team. A match up of two teams that expect to be playing Thanksgiving weekend and then making a trip to William’s Brice Stadium. Two teams that know a little something about holding up a State Championship Trophy. Mister Doolittle says the Rebels by 6 and we all know Nixon Field it worth 7 points, so that means it is really a complete toss up. I think Mister Doolittle’s Doodle may be right on the money here. Complete toss up…
Gaffney 215.1 Rock Hill 187.5 14
Which way do you go to describe the Indians so far this season. They were within a play of beating T L Hanna, something that no team has duplicated since. They just keep surprising me week in and week out. You think the computer is right here by saying Rock Hill will lose by 14; then you remember the Indians lost to Northwestern last week, a team with a new coach and new OC that took over on Monday and had 4 days to get ready to play. I have to say, Rock Hill ain’t Northwestern, even Northwestern with a new coach and OC. Got to be the Indians, right?
Clover 201.1 Nation Ford 195.5 3
Toss up. But an important toss up. It could go a long way in determining who gets in to the playoffs and who starts basketball practice.
Northwestern 218.9 Fort Mill 197.4 11
Could be the only time in recent memory that Fort Mill was only an 11 point underdog in this game. Did the changes at Head Coach and OC get things worked out and it’s peddle to the metal for the Trojans or was last Friday’s game an emotional thing and reality sets in now? I’m still saying the Trojans have enough to win Region Four and they do it without a loss in Region. Brave man… or crazy, we’ll see?
Dutch Fork 256.4 Blythewood 187.1 35
Last week, I thought this could be a good game as Blythewood was coming off a win. Now a loss to River Bluff and the computer has them being smoked like a good brisket. Dutch Fork’s loss to Fort Dorchester was only a speed bump. They are still a TOP FIVE team and are a good choice to be playing on the first weekend in December. Don’t forget about them! Blythewood may wish they could…
White Knoll 210.9 Irmo 199.4 6
Just a few weeks ago, this would have been Irmo with a 15 point margin. Funny how things can change with just two games. I don’t know that I will go with White Knoll on Friday, but you can understand how the computer could give up on Irmo.
Lexington 205.4 River Bluff 190.9 7
Speaking a last week, raise your hand if you had River Bluff over Blythewood… Our pool was 8-0 in favor of Blythewood, the same team that beat previously unbeaten Irmo the week before. Just as we were 8-0 in favor of Irmo over Lexington. That is why we work for a living and pick games in our spare time. River Bluff, that same team that lost to Gilbert {bet you not many even know where Gilbert is} beat Blythewood last Friday night. So looking at the history from the past few weeks, pick this game??? I’ll go with Mister Doolittle’s computer.
Socastee 216.6 Carolina Forest 207.8 5
Looks like the computer has this one as a close one. Carolina Forest seems to be improved, then you look at the schedule and you think, “Well there doesn’t seem to be anything here that is impressive!” Some folks like to pile up wins against teams that you should beat, while others {See Union County} have less than impressive records but have played a MONSTER schedule. It’s only the Region that matters in today’s world of SCHSL and I understand that a coach is measured by the W’s and the L’s so there is merit to each strategy. I guess the coach and AD have to decide which way works best for their team. As for this game, if it goes as expected in Region Six, this could be a big game for determining third place.
Conway 214.3 West Florence 186.6 14
I thought Conway was on course to take on Sumter with an unblemished record; but Myrtle Beach put an end to that last week. I am still thinking the Sumter -vs- Conway game determines Region Six championship, but there are a few things left before that is final. West Florence is a 14 point underdog based on Doodles, but after the loss, the Tigers may want to prove that last week was a fluke, so I’d take Conway even bigger, maybe 24 points.
Sumter 225.9 South Florence 191.8 17
South Florence played Hartsville to the last play of the game and I thought they may be a good team this year. Then reality set in… {what movie was that from?} SFBandDad, what is going on over there on the south side? Sumter seems focused and headed to the region schedule looking good scoring 163 points while only giving up 99, an average of 32.6 -vs- 19.8 so they haven’t been a lot of 7-6 type games so expect points to be scored. Based on the evidence, the Gamecocks march on toward the Conway showdown.
Ashley Ridge 203.1 Goose Creek 201.1 1
Ashley Ridge was playing last week in a game that went a long way in determining who would finish second to Fort Dorchester in Region Seven. Now they appear to be fighting to hang on to the third spot according to Mister Doolittle. Goose Creek.
Fort Dorchester 266.5 Stratford 180.5 43
Fort Dorchester appears to be heading to the playoffs with little to no chance of anything but the Region Championship and a match up against AT LARGE in the first round.
Wando 203.3 James Island 174.7 14
It would be easier if this was a band competition, WANDO wins big!!! But it’s football so I going with Wando in a much closer score than band; but since Wando has played some tougher games, it helps them be better prepared.
Summerville 208.8 West Ashley 195.8 7
Last week, Summerville went a long way toward building momentum for the Region games with a good win. They win this one and they are setting themselves up as the team to beat…. For second place in Region Seven. I think they get it done and maybe even by a wider margin that the computer is saying. I think they win by at least two scores.
Well, count me in as one of the ones who thinks T L Hanna is the only team that prevent the Jackets from being 10-0 and Region Champions. It appears that as long as they continue to do what they have been doing all year, they are the cream of the crop in Region One…. Maybe even further.

Re: DOODLES WEEK 6
Cane Bay at Waterburroe just might be the upset special for the week. I have read that Cane Bay lost their starting QB for the season. This being their first game with a new helmsman puts them on red alert for the big upset. Waterburroe is certainly no powerhouse this season, and their results show them to be a team battling for every win that they can get, steal, or luck into, just to make the playoffs. They are home, and catch the Cobras at an opportune time. I haven't fully decided on whether to pull the trigger on the Dogs just yet..........but..........this one smells fishy to me.

Cane Bay 211.6 Colleton County 171.1 21
Considering the computer says 21 point margin, that would rank as quite the upset. I wonder if the computer knows about the QB issues? Probably not...
How's the Penguin doing? Still holding down things in Beaufort?

I'm still kicking........they can't kill me off that easy. Modern medicine, energizer batteries, and the entire pharmaceutical industry, have me back almost good as new.

Re: DOODLES WEEK 6
There were some injuries during the game last week against Gaffney. The change in the HC/OC was very positive. We should still win the region. The sophomore qb plays like a very inexperienced sophomore high school quarterback. He needs to grow, both physically and football-wise.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: Northwestern 218.9 Fort Mill 197.4 11
One wrinkle was a touch of the wildcat. If we do more of that, we should be able to run the ball to victory over our region foes.
At the end of the season, we may be region champions, but overall from a 5A state perspective, probably not even a top 10 team.
my 2 cents worth

Let's just say we have an experience gap at key positions and we've had a few injuries. We've had to start some younger players at key positions. Insert the perennial fan rant here: "Just wait until next year!!"Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: Sumter 225.9 South Florence 191.8 17
South Florence played Hartsville to the last play of the game and I thought they may be a good team this year. Then reality set in… {what movie was that from?} SFBandDad, what is going on over there on the south side?
Well, we beat the point spread, but not by much. I hate to say it, but Sumter didn't look very good. Their defense held our struggling offense to almost 0 yards in the first half but their offense didn't capitalize on many of the opportunities they were given. There were too many muffed snaps, motion penalties, bad passes to open receivers. The Gamecocks didn't look very sharp. Unless something changes Conway will coast to a region title.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: Sumter seems focused and headed to the region schedule looking good scoring 163 points while only giving up 99, an average of 32.6 -vs- 19.8 so they haven’t been a lot of 7-6 type games so expect points to be scored. Based on the evidence, the Gamecocks march on toward the Conway showdown.
I'm seeing some improvement in our team and I was reasonably impressed by some of the adjustments our offense made in the 2nd half. We may be in the hunt for 3rd or 4th place in the region. We'll find out this week on Thursday night against Carolina Forest,.... on TV.

Re: DOODLES WEEK 6
Well...I think I said late last year that we needed to throw the ball more, but we don't need to throw it as much as we are now. No one has stopped our run game all year. In the Spring Valley game, we had close to 200 yds rushing in the first half and took a 27-22 lead at half. Came out of halftime and decided to throw the ball which lost us the game coupled with us not being able to stop their flexbone offense.
As for the penalties last week, Barnes was not happy about those procedure penalties and I believe those will get corrected this week.
Conway will be in for a fight in two weeks. Aside from the Spring Valley game, our defense has been stout all year. Our secondary is the strength of our defense so as always we'll focus on stopping the run. As long as we can run the ball and stop the run, I'll take my Gamecocks over Conway....that is of course....after we take care of West and CF.
