Columbia teams in the upstate bracket? Isn’t that what SCHSL is trying to avoid?

Region 4 is referred to as a "Hybrid" region because teams can be placed in either the upper or lower state bracket.

I am going to make a motion for Sumter to play an independent football schedule and allow a committee to put us wherever they see fit in the playoffs...sort of the Notre Dame of SC high school football. We don’t mind playing anybody in the state, wherever in the state. We’re out in no man’s land. No one really wants to play us (1. They have to travel... 2. We’re typically a pretty good football team). Heck I think the last two visiting team bands inside Sumter Memorial Stadium (aside from Lakewood and Crestwood) was Lexington in the 2016 playoffs and Gaffney back in the 2008 playoffs. We’ve had region games where we’ve had to travel two plus hours one way. Now we’re in a ‘hybrid’ region where we could be in the upper state or lower state. That hybrid region is mostly, if not solely because of Sumter and our geographic location compared to other 5A teams.
