Spring Valley is listed twice. Both Region 4 #2 and Lower State At-Large.

I read that the champions of regions 1 and 7 get home field throughout if they keep winning. KInd of a raw deal for the champions of Region 2-5A, probably the toughest region in the state, to have to potentially travel to TL Hanna in the third round.

Though I personally think Hanna is a bit overrated and have played a rather weak schedule and they might not even make it that far. A 4th place team in the very tough Region 2 like Boiling Springs or an improving Northwestern team is capable of knocking Hanna out in the second round. Remember that Hanna made an early departure last year. I don’t trust them. And I don’t think they beat Dorman if they do make it to that game...Hanna has not seen a defense as good as Dorman’s...not even close. Dorman and Gaffney will meet in a rematch for the upper state title.

Another reason I like Statewide bracketing...I like to see how the brackets would look if we still did it...

It would be almost impossible to determine since a lot of that "seeding" was based on Non-Region games. Many schools would have much different schedules if we still had that process. I would like to see something based on a seeding as well.

Maybe a revised version of the points system:

....................Winning Record...Non Winning Record
Beating a 5A..........5.0.................4.5
Loss to a 5A...........4.0.................3.5
Beating a 4A..........4.5.................4.0
Loss to a 4A...........3.5.................3.0

Region Champ +3 points
Runner Up +2 points

I would like to see everyone play a minimum number of 5A games. I know how hard it is to make regions "even" as you have 8 team regions and 5 team regions, but some way of balancing through cross region games to make everyone play seven 5A games. Those 7 count toward your 5A record, just like they do in the NFL. The other three, you must count two of the three games or maybe just one game of the three. That would allow for some big gate games that may hurt you in the playoff seedings to take place and give you one throw away game, or two maybe....
.

OK so we are headed into the final week of the regular season for the upper state teams and you still have Gaffney as the 3rd seed. What has to happen for Gaffney to move to the 2nd seed and possibly get a home playoff game. Im still not sure on the whole tie breaker but doesn't it go 2 way tie to determine the 1st place team then revert back to the head to head to determine 2nd place the whole thing is confusing to me

They break a 3-way tie first, then the 2 teams left are determined by head-to-head.

Gaffney is 3rd because Dorman would win the 3-way tie scenario at 6-1 in Region.
in a tie between Dorman, Byrnes, and Gaffney.
1. Dorman
2. Byrnes (due to Head to Head over Gaffney)
3. Gaffney

Gaffney could get the #1 seed in Region 2 if:
The Indians beat Spartanburg and Boiling Springs upsets Byrnes.
This could get Gaffney into a two team tie with Dorman at 6-1, assuming Dorman beats Riverside.
Gaffney would win Region due to head-to-head over Dorman.
1. Gaffney 2. Dorman 3. Boiling Springs 4. Byrnes

For Gaffney to finish 2nd, one scenario would require
Riverside to beat Dorman, Byrnes beat Boiling Springs. Gaffney beat Spartanburg.
2-way way tie with Gaffney and Byrnes.
1. Byrnes 2. Gaffney 3. Dorman 4. Boiling Springs

There is another way Gaffney could finish 2nd,
but it would involve the Indians losing to Spartanburg.
1. Dorman
(3-way tie for 2nd with Gaffney, Byrnes, and Boiling Springs) at 5-2.
2. Gaffney
3. Boiling Springs
4. Byrnes

All of the above is correct, and even more accurate than this. But the simplest way to think of it is this: It comes down to the Byrnes - Boiling Springs result.

If Byrnes beats Boiling Springs, then Byrnes ties Dorman and Gaffney for region champ at 6-1.

Gaffney is 3rd because Dorman would win the 3-way tie scenario at 6-1 in Region.
in a tie between Dorman, Byrnes, and Gaffney.
1. Dorman
2. Byrnes (due to Head to Head over Gaffney)
3. Gaffney
4. Boiling Springs

If Boiling Springs beats Byrnes, then Dorman and Gaffney are tied for region champ at 6-1. Boiling Springs and Byrnes are 5-2. Head to head determines both

1. Gaffney
2. Dorman
3. Boiling Springs
4. Byrnes

The other scenarios involve losses by Gaffney to Spartanburg (only slightly possible) or Dorman to Riverside (practically impossible). :D
