Re: AAAAA Playoffs (what if scenario)
Rankings are always going to be biased and filled with "intuition" and "gut feelings" and argued until dooms day. I don't know enough about computer formulas and calculations, but I don't know how you would adjust for "strength of schedule" and "quality wins" or "quality losses" and then you have Regional imbalance. Imbalance by number of teams and imbalance by quality. I know Region II better than any other region, so I'll use it for my example. Hillcrest may have finished second in Region I, but in Region II, they didn't make the top five.SF Band dad wrote: We've discussed putting together statewide rankings. We've considered algorithms like Maxpreps and Doodles, we've considered doing a poll of "select members" that somehow qualify.
There are good people here that really know HS football.
I think they could figure out how to make each team play the same amount of AAAAA teams, with regional cross over games, kind of like the SEC and ACC when SC plays Texas A&M and Ole Miss this season. Once everyone plays the same amount of games, then a Point System based on a AAAAA team with a winning record, a AAAAA team with a non-winning record, AAAA winning, AAAA non-winning and then give a couple of bonus points for the Region Champs and a point for runner up. Then seed Region Champs, then runner ups, then everyone else based on points. Even though I don't really like it, a Region Champ with a 5-5 record would still be seeded over a 9-1 runner up.
Like this one, I posted Saturday morning and heard on the radio yesterday: "I’m not saying it will happen; however, giving Chris Miller two weeks to prepare for T L Hanna could be dangerous. He’s done a great job before shutting down a great offense. Probably doesn’t have the athleticism to match up with them but he can scheme with the best of them....."SF Band dad wrote:Its amusing to hear radio "football experts" reading our posts verbatim.

Actually, the Greenwood fans have no issue with 5A. That's not why we haven't been performing. There are other issues that all the Greenwood fans know about.NAmAN wrote:Greenwood fans would probably be happier with big 16. They wouldn't be stuck in 5A.

Who did Greenwood beat for state the year Dula was coach? I think it was in 2006.

In 2012, The Goose Creek Gators were arguably the best team. They were undefeated and coming off a state championship in 2011 after defeating Greenwood. The SCHSL saw to it that there would not be a rematch.StateChampsGHS wrote:...We beat the best in 2012...NAmAN wrote:Greenwood fans would probably be happier with big 16. We played whoever was there. That season we beat Dorman, Spartanburg, South Point, NW just to name a few. Went undefeated. Appeared in the state championship 3 years in a row. Goose Creek had a short run, but I wouldn't consider them a traditional power. The 2011 Greenwood team was different from 2012 and you can't guarantee a GC win. Things are different now though. The instinct is different.GoBigGreen wrote:In 2012, The Goose Creek Gators were arguably the best team. They were undefeated and coming off a state championship in 2011 after defeating Greenwood.
