Who do you pull for in you’re In Travelers Rest
Several of the employees in the company I work for are from there because we bought Tungsten carbide. They’re asking me what teams to watch. They think the board is cool.

I'd go see Greer. Limited options for good football in Gville County. The close teams around TR of TR, Berea, and Blue Ridge are just not very good at all. Haven't been in years, and won't be.

Travelers Rest Berea Blue Ridge Eastside greer Hillcrest Mauldin Carolina and Woodmont
Re: Who do you pull for in you’re In Travelers Rest
Of those Hillcrest has the most recent State Title.
If you like the Cavaliers, we play Mauldin and Hillcrest every year.
I think Hillcrest might be a good bet if you're into the 5A class. I saw them play Dorman and Dutch Fork. I bet they're pretty good against the other greenville schools.

Decav all I did was do a google search of high schools within a 25 mile radius of northern Greenville county. I think out of all of those i would go watch Hillcrest and possibly Greer
Re: Who do you pull for in you’re In Travelers Rest
Agreed. I’d go with Hillcrest unless someone is a Band Dad. I have a feeling you could be a walk on with a kazoo and make the JL Mann Band.
I need to see if JL Mann needs a band director. I know fork all about band music and don’t so much read musical notation as I can decipher it. But the last time I saw them play, they made Earth Wind and Fire look like a college size band.

You guys ever see Mann’s band?
Did they ever get more than seven musicians?

Yes and Yes.DeCav wrote:You guys ever see Mann’s band?

Easley played at JL Mann this past season.
Back in 2012, they had around 15 people in their band on the night we played them (maybe fewer).
I just remember thinking, "Wow, we have more kids in our color guard."
When they played the national anthem, you could hear every missed note and/or squeak.
But I was honestly impressed with everyone of those kids.
They had the courage to part of something that obviously wasn't very popular in their school at the time.
Yet it is a very important part of all high school football games.
Happy to report that JL Mann's band program has grown quite a bit since I saw them back in 2012.
This past year when we played them, they had a decent sized band with nice uniforms.
They gave a very good halftime performance.

Shout out to the kids that kept the band program going during its more trying times.

I agree one hundred percent. Me and Chuck loved it that night. I believe Cody was there also. Lost his keys under the bleacher. Best Halftime show I ever saw was 7 kids strutting around having a good time knowing they really were the stars.
I was talking to Daniel at work. I said, "Daniel, how many people do you know that you can say was in a real band and got on stage and played music in front of some size of the crowd, even a party?
Too his credit he didn't have any idea where I was going with my question so he just thought...
...."Quite a lot actually."
You see he thought I was trying to make the point that people don't form bands and play on stage often. He pointed out that actually, he knows quite a few people who do.
I said, "Exactly! Now, how many people have you ever met who you can say you knew they got up on stage and tried stand up comedy?"
He thought....(again he had no idea where I was going).....
"No one actually. I can't say I've ever met someone who tried stand up comedy."
"And why do you think that is?"
He said he couldn't think of a reason other than it "takes balls to stand in front of an audience and tell jokes?"
"Dude. In a band, the stress is shared like pounds per square inch. If you're in a band of 4 you have 25% of the stress that you'd have if you were alone telling jokes. Less than 25 because you still have your guitar and amp to help shield you. Think of how much easier it is actually to try comedy than to try rock and roll. You don't have to buy a guitar or an amp or drum set. Heck, you don't even have to buy the microphone. All you have to do is be willing to walk into a bar on an open mic night and throw yourself at the ground and miss. It's like jumping out of the airplane only if something goes wrong and your shoot doesn't open and you see your life flash before your eyes and you marvel sickeningly at how lovely the ground looks rushing up at you and it would be even more beautiful if your stupid shoot would open but it doesn't and you make a crater in the earth and die. Except, in stand up...after you die, you can go home and go back to your regular life......but.......what if your shoot opens?"
He was all tripping out by that time and talking about how he did know a few folks who would like to try it.
I told him, "Well, the count of people you can say you know have tried it just went up by one."
The conversation got livelier from there but yeah it takes super courage for those kids to do what they did. I wish them the best. Fortune favors the bold. I bet they will be successful.
