Boiling Springs @ Dorman

Post by NuclearCav90 »

The Bulldogs have big wins over Westside and Riverside and big losses to powers Chapman and Dutch Fork. The Cavaliers are unbeaten and coming off easily their most impressive win of the season, a 42-7 domination over previously unbeaten Hillcrest on the road. This is a good little Spartanburg County rivalry, though it is historically one-sided. Since the series started back in 1978, the Cavs have beaten BS 34 times, the most win over any school in their history, while BS owns but 5 wins over Dorman.

The Bulldogs will be fired up, as they always are against Dorman. The Cavs have to be ready because they know BS will be. But on paper, this is a game that it appears should go to the Cavaliers quite handily. But games are not played on paper; players and coaches must execute on the field. The Cavs have to avoid looking ahead to the meat of their schedule, upcoming games against Spartanburg, Gaffney and Byrnes, and focus on the task at hand. Coach Gutshall is a steady hand that will ensure that this occurs. Dorman wins 42-17. Anyone have a different take?

based on your report I am 100% in agreement with you. Dorman can come out uninspired sometimes, but usually turns it around and wins

Not sure why this is even a thread. Less mystery abiutbthisbgame than pretty much any game this week. I don't know if they are hurt, rebuilding this year, or what, but Boiling Springs just isn't very good this year. Had a nice win over Riverside, but there may be some middle school teams in the area that could beat Riverside. The SCHSL made some of the 1A powers move up to 2A a couple years back in an attempt to level the playing field. They should do the same with Riverside and let them play 2A football.
But as far as the Dorman/BS matchup? Just depends on how much Dorman is interested as to how wide the final margin will be.

It’s a thread because I’m a Dorman grad and I like to talk about my school and its teams. And next to winning games with those Byrnes Rebels and Spartanburg Vikings, I love beating up on the BS Bulldogs because they are such big mouths who talk trash and can rarely back it up. I love TALKING about whipping their tails just as much as seeing my Cavs do it consistently. Their massive mouths have written so many checks to Dorman over the years that their butts couldn’t cash that their debt to the Cavs could pay off all That District 7 debt resulting from the new Spartanburg High School. And, bonus, I simply don’t wanna talk about Byrnes and Gaffney all week. Enough people will be doing that already! I’ll worry about those guys when Dorman faces then 2 and 3 weeks from Friday!

I’ll be listening to the games online from here on out as I have been shipped out to Minnesota and Illinois for outage work until the holidays. But this is what I can report so far:

Dorman has shown a pretty balanced attack so far on offense. They run the ball very well with the main ball carriers being #5 Chance Black and #1 Rashad Durrah. The QB is #13 Hayden Lee and he throws a very good accurate ball if given time. Receivers #2 Demarice Rice-Williams and #7 Kendall Norman are two of his favorite targets but he spreads the ball around pretty good to several different receivers. #7 Norman is also a very dangerous kick/punt returner who can is fast and elusive and can take it to the house. But if a defense can get pressure on Hayden he is prone to mistakes at times. The kicking game is solid for a high school team- lots of touchbacks on kickoffs and field goal range up to about 35-40 yards. Defensively, the Cavs are stout, as they have only given up 28 points in 4 games (an average of only 7 points per game). Stopping the run is the strongest suite.
