Greenwood AD, football coach Dan Pippin to leave after 2019

Bet the hire will come from out of state. Two hot commodities in state who have had playoff success are Jody Jenerette from West Florence and Perry Parks at Ridge View. Jenerette has had success at Aynor and recently took West Florence to the semifinals. Parks has had some deep playoff runs at Ridge View. He took Lakewood to the playoffs...which speaks for itself. Most importantly (probably more important than winning a state championship) he gets his players to college. But I have a gut feeling that he will be the next Dutch Fork coach after Knotts decides to hang it up...whenever that will be.

Greenwood can also try to lure Erik Kimrey from Hammond, Phil Strickland from Newberry, or Steve Taneyhill out of retirement.

Greenwood needs to drive down the road to Abbeville, if he would take it.
Dutch Fork pays well, but would be tough to take right after Knotts. Would be like succeeding Saban. There is no upside no matter how good you do.
Strickland -- Got a feeling that his next gig is retirement.
Tanneyhill -- Two issues. They way those students flock to his bar one would figure that things are going pretty good. Second, is I don't think he ever got certified as a teacher and that is a deal killer right off the top at most schools.

In my opinion Greenwood needs to go out of state and get a big time coach. TL Hanna has rich tradition but not necessarily winning football games. Dutch Forks football tradition just started with no real tradition before knotts got there. Greenwood has rich winning football tradition that goes back decades. My point? If DF and Hanna can do it with what they have why can't Greenwood? We need to get with the times!

If we have to stay in state for some reason, Coach Nickles from Abbeville if he'll accept it anyways or Porter.

I hope they don't go that route. With the difference in pay, it seems to have become the popular thing to do to try and go cherry pick some coach from NC. Hate to see that for the DC guys that don't get the chance.

In my opinion, if the coach is not a greenwood guy, then he needs to bring Greenwood guys in with him. Dan is not a Greenwood guy, he does not understand what it means to be at Greenwood. He may have thought he did, but it is evident that he does not. And he ran off all of the guys that are Greenwood guys. All of the coaches stated before are great coaches, but my question would be "Are they Greenwood Guys". Do they fit with the community? I love the G more than most, and want nothing more than them to be back where they belong!

Us getting whooped up front by woodmont has everything to do with dan Pippin. Jet Turner is no doubt a proven winner but I really think greenwood should go out of state and bring in a big time coach. Greenwood football has traditionaly been great but I want a coach that can get us to the Dutch Fork, Mallard Creek, Collquit County, St. Thomas Aquinas level. We pay enough! Dutch Fork and Hanna did it. Why can't we!!??

I think Jamie Nickles fits the greenwood style and community. He should be offered first in my opinion. He may not want it. If he doesn't, then we should go out of state.

Irmo just hired their new 2019 Football Coach/Teacher ( Non Athletic Director ) for $100,000. In 2016 Tom Knotts was making $106,214.
