Brian Lane--Would be taking a huge chance. Remember he managed to burn a dynasty into the ground at Byrnes in three short years.
Greg Porter--The man has applied for every different job in the state for the last 4-5 years. Never got any of them. Then took the Greenville job in the Greenville County tradition of circulating coaches. Has to be a reason why after catching lightning in a bottle that one year at Hillcrest that he never got a bite.
Early--Seemed to be the odds on favorite a couple of years ago when the annual prediction of Jones retirement was going around. Made sense. Now? This is about the third year in a row that things arent going as well at Westside as one would figure that big salary down there should produce.

Bobby Bentley--Dont see him coming back to high school. Wouldn't count on him being at USC though given that Jake is probably gone. Remember, he was offered to OC job at Auburn last winter but wanted to keep the family together with Jake at USC. If he leaves USC it will be for another college job.

I start with Mark Hodge. Now he is happy and has it on cruise control at Chapman. Of course all the Spartanburg folks say he is coming there when Miller retires. Regardless, he would be the first call I'd make.
Brian Thompson at Union has done a good job in turning that program around.
And politics plays a role in a place like Gaffney. Maybe they have already decided to promote someone already on staff.

But this speculation could be just that. I've been hearing that Jones, like Gutshall, is retiring every year for the last five years. But then the next year rolls around and they are always still there.

i would put mark barnes at sumter on the short list also. he used to coach at crest so he is familiar with the area and also has a connection with the new cherokee county ad.

Not going to get him out of Georgia. He has the deal of a lifetime at CC. The "must be an educator" rule for coaches is going to have to change to get high profile coaches in this state again.

You seem to be down on Greg Porter often whom I've talked to in person. I love his attitude and creativity. He can connect with the kids that a lot of coaches can't. The kids respect him and always play spirited ball. By saying catching lightning in a bottle, it seems you're saying he can't coach. You are so far off. Hillcrest is a school with no football tradition whatsoever. My sisters and kids attended there, my niece does currently. So over the years I'm familiar with it's past in football. We used to schedule them for homecoming and the like. Porter lit a fire to that program and made them contenders. The man can coach. Your opinion is yours. Why didn't they hire him? Could be many crazy reasons. My alma mater has never had a head football coach with an ethnic background. Is there a reason for that? Who knows, but I'm not going to say there is one without having the facts. As you're doing with Porter. So what's the reason? You seem to know.

You are impressed with Porter. I'm not. We can agree to disagree.

Propst has been unemployed since last spring. Am sure he would jump on a Gaffney offer in a minute if Gaffney were so inclined. But one has to figure at this point that Propst has burned his bridges with being a head coach again. But never say never. There is always someone capable of overlooking ones sins in search of a sure winner.

Porter and Probst are definitely winners whatever they go. Do the research….look at their track record.

Heck, I'm impressed with Porter. He won a state title with Hillcrest. No other coach have won at Hillcrest like Porter. Solid wins at that.

Brian Lane - Coach Lane is winning at Clover (6-0) this year. I've talked to some Byrnes folks and Byrnes was just down those years in talent.
