Brian Lane--Would be taking a huge chance. Remember he managed to burn a dynasty into the ground at Byrnes in three short years.
Greg Porter--The man has applied for every different job in the state for the last 4-5 years. Never got any of them. Then took the Greenville job in the Greenville County tradition of circulating coaches. Has to be a reason why after catching lightning in a bottle that one year at Hillcrest that he never got a bite.
Early--Seemed to be the odds on favorite a couple of years ago when the annual prediction of Jones retirement was going around. Made sense. Now? This is about the third year in a row that things arent going as well at Westside as one would figure that big salary down there should produce.

Bobby Bentley--Dont see him coming back to high school. Wouldn't count on him being at USC though given that Jake is probably gone. Remember, he was offered to OC job at Auburn last winter but wanted to keep the family together with Jake at USC. If he leaves USC it will be for another college job.

I start with Mark Hodge. Now he is happy and has it on cruise control at Chapman. Of course all the Spartanburg folks say he is coming there when Miller retires. Regardless, he would be the first call I'd make.
Brian Thompson at Union has done a good job in turning that program around.
And politics plays a role in a place like Gaffney. Maybe they have already decided to promote someone already on staff.

But this speculation could be just that. I've been hearing that Jones, like Gutshall, is retiring every year for the last five years. But then the next year rolls around and they are always still there.
Brian Lane - Coach Lane is winning at Clover (6-0) this year. I've talked to some Byrnes folks and Byrnes was just down those years in talent.
As much as I love Brian Lane the man, the issues while at Byrnes wasnt talent level. First two season 12-2 & 12-2, 3rd season 3-7. I watched a well oiled machine turn into a player ran team with a bunch of friends coaching them, undisciplined is an understatement. Our talent is what won those 12 games each of the first two seasons, those guys were in the program while Bentley & Miller were there. All those guys were gone by year 3 & thats when we hit rock bottom.
Shaw has brought discipline back & we are heading in the right direction, we still have work to do to get back to the level we were but at least we are heading up. ;) :D
I dont give em hell, I just tell them the truth & they think its hell!

Great minds think alike....

Just wondering.....If talent wasn't one of the issues those 3 years, how many players went on to play Division 1 college football?

First of all, Byrnes had several state titles year where we only signed a few D1 players. Noah Dawkins 2015 Graduate- NFL, Dawkins-USC, Foster-USC, Khalid Jones- 2016 Northwestern, John Guthie- 2016 Air Force, Jalen Miller 2016 Furman, D. Gregory 2015-2016 Ole Miss, Tavin Richardson- Kentucky, Mason Streater 2014- USC, Isaiah Hill- Miami OH.

That's just the ones off the top of my head. There were tons that went Div 2 as well. Byrnes signed at least 7-10 college players each of those 3 years. Talent was not the problem, leadership and developing players were.
