Region 3, 3A Playoff Scenarios Week 10

Post by bigdog2003 »

Entering week 10, here are the standings.
Union County 4-0
Woodruff 3-1
Newberry 2-2
Clinton 2-2
Mid Carolina 1-3
Emerald 0-4

Union County has locked up the region title after defeating Newberry last Friday 28-21. They will open at home with the 4 seed from region 4, which is Indian Land right now.
Woodruff can lock up the 2 seed with a win over Clinton this week. A loss to the Red Devils could cause craziness (more on that later)
Newberry currently sits at the 3 spot since they own the tie breaker over Clinton due to their dramatic 96 yard touchdown drive and successful 2 point conversion with 37 seconds left at Wilder Stadium 2 weeks ago.
Clinton sits as the 4 seed, but they could change their spot with a big win this week over Woodruff.
Mid Carolina is on the outside looking in, but they could knock their rivals out of the playoffs if everything works out for them this week. They have to beat Newberry to even have a shot at the playoffs.
Emerald is getting ready for basketball season, and if you go by the talk on here, on their way to a coaching search.

Scenarios for this week
A. Favorites all win
1. Union County
2. Woodruff
3. Newberry
4. Clinton

B. Clinton beats Woodruff, Newberry beats Mid Carolina
1. Union County
2. 3-way tie between Woodruff, Newberry, Clinton

If this scenario happens, it would go to points allowed in games between the 3 teams tied. Right now it looks like this
Woodruff- 14 (only played Newberry so far)
Clinton- 14 (only played Newberry so far)
Newberry- 51

If Clinton beats Woodruff, but scores 36 points or less, the following would be the seeding:
1. Union County
2. Clinton
3. Woodruff
4. Newberry

If Clinton beats Woodruff and scores 38 points or more, while also allowing Woodruff to score 38 points or more, this would be the seeding:
1. Union County
2. Newberry
3. Clinton
4. Woodruff

C. Woodruff beats Clinton, Mid Carolina beats Newberry
1. Union County
2. Woodruff
3. 3-way tie between Clinton, Newberry, and Mid Carolina

If this scenario happens, it would go to points allowed in games between the 3 teams tied. Right now it looks like this
Newberry- 13 (only played Clinton)
Clinton- 35
Mid Carolina- 35 (only played Clinton)

The only way Mid Carolina would get in in this scenario is they beat Newberry and score more than 22 points. This would give Clinton the 3 seed, Mid Carolina the 4 seed based on head to head over Newberry, and knock Newberry out of the playoffs.

D. Clinton beats Woodruff, Mid Carolina beats Newberry
1. Union County
2. Clinton
3. Woodruff
4. Mid Carolina

I hope I worked through this all correctly. I have been trying to break this down in my head and decided to type it out. Week 10 could be crazy for the region, a lot of teams still have a lot to play for. If anybody sees anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know.
