Region II AAAAA

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

Again, Region II representing in the Playoffs. Three of the final four and the #4 team played #1 Seed Clover pretty tough.

Byrnes 41
@ Laurens 12

Gaffney 33
@ Sumter 7

Dorman 49
Spring Valley 0

Mauldin 31
@ Clover 58

Next week will feature a re-match of the Rebels and Indians and a trip to Clover for the Cavs. Early thoughts on these games has to include the old axiom "It's hard to beat a team twice in the same season!" I expect a different style of game than happened a couple of months ago at the Reservation. My "unbiased" projection, Rebels win in a closer game this time.

As for Dorman, I would be expecting a lot of points being scored in this game, with Dorman coming out on top in the match up of #1 seeds.

Um....it was 58-24 before a garbage TD with the second string in!

I expect Clover to go toe 2 toe with Dorman. I have seen Clover strike on 1st plays for TDs on multiple occasions and they have 3 RBs that can grind it out as well. Coach Lane’s son has great hands, #4 is a tough tackle when he catches the ball. Dorman better have some good coverage or Clover will air it out and they will score. I wouldn’t be surprised if they throw it 40 X next Friday!!

Clovers defense gave up a couple of big running plays last night but hey....they are all kids and cant stop them everytime. # 26 for Mauldin is super quick and is only about 5’7....i dont think defensive line could see him when he got the ball!!!

Clovers has 2 kickers that can hit from 50+ yards......that could be the difference in this one!!!!

Roll on Blue Eagles!!! :D 8-)

All I know is Spring Valley nor Sumter are upstate teams yet they in our bracket. Region II is the "SEC" of South Carolina high school football, year in & year out. Well over 95% of the time a Region II team is representing in the State Title game. They need to get that back to being an option instead of the way it is now where sooner or later the two best teams in the state meet in the simi finals instead of the finals. Not to mention the gate that these POWER HOUSES bring.
I understand that its never going to be "perfect" but when you know that a certain region has the absolute very best football programs year in & year out, how you going to have all them playing each other, knocking each other out, before they make it to state? Then have some team playing for state that in most cases would get drug by the Region II team that got knocked out the week before by the Region II team thats about to wax them?
It just SUCKS IMO!! Gaffney is healthy now, they have the talent to win State this year, Dorman with out question could win State this year, & of course Byrnes could win State this year. They all are good enough, yet only ONE of the 3 has a chance. If Clover takes care of Dorman & then takes care of the winner between Gaffney & Byrnes then none of this matters THIS YEAR but what about the next year, or the next, or next? Because one thing is for sure Region II isnt going anywhere. ;) :D
I dont give em hell, I just tell them the truth & they think its hell!

Got that right!!! 09, 10, & 11 were all epic though & they were the best two teams each year in those games.
This year DF aint no joke, so I assume they will be waiting for whoever makes it out of the upper state bracket. This year the two best teams may still meet in the State Title game but if things stay as they are mark it down, there will be a year where the two best teams meet in the simi finals like they did in 06. ;)

I wouldn’t mind going back to cross bracketing. Here are some of my thoughts after being in the upstate bracket for two years now.

1. It should be illegal to have to go through Gaffney, Byrnes, and Dorman...just to get to the state championship game.

2. I think there actually would be more of an opportunity to get the best teams in state championship game, not to mention competitive matchups on both sides of the bracket.

3. Lessens the chance for teams to play each other twice, though it will happen at some point.

Ok, that made me laugh out loud.

Since the rise of DF and FD, I'm not so sure. DF has had the Reb's number since Knotts got there. And FD beat us in a championship game. Hasn't it been 8 years since Byrnes made it to Columbia?
