Dear Horry County,
Why does Carolina Forest have to be so much larger than surrounding schools? Shift 150 students to Myrtle Beach and 100 to North Myrtle Beach and Horry County could have their own 6 school, 5A region.
No, you would rather have your kids (all sports) riding buses for hours back-and-forth to Sumter, Hartsville, Darlington and Florence. Brilliant. Even if you don't shift the students, do the right thing and appeal to have MB and NMB play up in 5A. (Think about the time and money saved, think about the safety and wellbeing of the students.)

Re: Realignment
Sumter, Spring Valley, West Flor, South Flor, Ridge View or another Cola school - perfect region for travel and competition
Bump Myrtle to 5A - FB coach has been wanting to go up anyhow...now Beach has it's own region.
How is Dutch Fork STILL considered Lower State? Baffling...
Let's see how many AD's have the backbone to challenge the SCHSL....who answers to no one anyhow...

Re: Realignment
I didn’t count just 9-11 but WF 1709 and Conway 1583 is what the education department shows before adjustments. Conway does get some from the ata and not sure on WF.dacoach wrote:Tigerific wrote:I still say this state is too small for 5A. The system we had before was about as fair as you can make it. D1 was basically 5A but we all played together in region play where now you can’t make regions work with 40 or less teams. They wanted 5 classes and now we have an unfair mess to the bottom schools. I still haven’t figured out how WF is in 4A and Conway in 5A. I want to see the enrollment numbers.
According to the Department of Education:
#37 West Florence - 1290 (9th-11th)
#41 Conway - 1282 (9th-11th)
That's a whopping 8 students...

I’ve told you before. You don’t understand why CF even exist in the first place. It’s to sell property. There were no I repeat no students in the area where the school is now in 1997. They robbed from everyone to build the school. Then as the growth happened they just keep building. I hate the very existence of CF and the damage it’s done to Conway in particular. Our city has been divided for over 20 years and nothing gets done about it.

Re: Realignment
Understood, but the CF attendance zone still includes those older neighborhoods that could be ceded back to the surrounding schools. It is just nuts that kids living 1.25 miles from Conway HS go to CF, 8 miles away. I see the same thing on the other side of their attendance zone for MBHS. Wouldn't a couple hundred empty seats at CFHS allow for more development in their zone?Tigerific wrote:I’ve told you before. You don’t understand why CF even exist in the first place. But honestly, I don't give a rip if they actually shift the students, just have MB and NMB play-up in 5A.
Re: Realignment
For those from the lower state wanting to avoid Dutch Fork by seeing their region in the upstate, there is a simple explanation. Numeric balance. More 5A high schools west of Columbia than east. One of the two 5A regions that have Columbia area teams is going to be lower state. But one has teams from Rock Hill in it, so that makes the other region for teams around Lexington the one designated as lower state

Re: Realignment
When I saw that I felt bad for them. I don't understand how they create these regions. I know what they tell us they use to determine who is in the region with who, but there is no way they actually use it. They have schools making long drives for region play. On a Tuesday night in January, a team has to drive 3 hours round trip for a basketball game? That makes a lot of sense.dacoach wrote:

Does anybody know if region 4 2A is going to be upper or lower state? On the PDF it has 1-3 on the top and 4-7 on the bottom which in the past has separated upper and lower state. I was looking yesterday, and the closest Newberry is to any of the lower state schools not in their region is Pelion. The majority of the other drives would all be 2 hrs plus. Also, there are only 16 football playing schools in upper state 2A, are they putting everybody in the playoffs?

Re: Realignment
Or just use the same system the SCBDA uses for Alignment much simpler and can even use same numbers and create a true big 16 which has to play at least 5 games against each other and then a point system for the the five remaining games have a 12 team playoff with top 4 seeds getting a byedacoach wrote:Tjamal9106 wrote:So with this being said only count the kids that play sports at every school?dacoach wrote:There is no way Chapin is 5A. I have heard there are only a handful of kids that attend Spring Hill that play ANY sports for Chapin, and I would bet you could count the number of ones that play football, baseball and basketball on one hand. You are going to move them up FOURTEEN SPOTS for that?? That doesn't seem right at all.
Wonder how many (if any) kids attend Spring Hill and plays sports for Dutch Fork or Irmo? DF was sitting at the cutoff line for 5A based on the Department of Education #'s.
Why can't these schools count only the kids that actually participate in a sport at their "zoned school" in their enrollment numbers? THEY DON'T ATTEND THESE SCHOOLS so how are they included in enrollment?!?!?! Where is this in the by-laws or constitution that this is the way to handle magnet schools or open enrollment districts?
And poor Mid-Carolina. Good Lord, that region... And you put two Rock Hill School in a Region in Columbia?!?
Again... WHO made this proposal? Does ANYONE know? Is this a committee of people who sat down and thought, "This is good"? Or did Jerome just draw it it up however he felt like it?
I would say it's laughable... but ain't no one laughing that I have heard from.
Um... no... you count the kids physically IN your building, then count anyone else who comes to your school to play.
Here's a question... do we count all the private school kids who live in a public district? Do we count every Home-schooled kid? Do we count every kid taking virtual school that happens to live in a particular district?
Just curious. Guess we need to count them, too.
