Greenwood

Post by GwoodEagle2k1 »

Well we're 4A and it's where be belong in regards to the enrollment numbers. Whoever the new coach will be needs to schedule our traditional opponents. We need to put Abbeville, Dorman, Gaffney, Spartanburg back on the schedule. This is just my opinion. The new coach needs to want to be competitive with these 5A schools to prove we can beat the best. Just because we're 4A doesn't been we can't be the best. Our region is going to be tough as well. That's how we like it. I fully trust our AD and what his vision is to get our program back to traditional standards. The only thing I don't like is the amount of time this is taking. We need to be ready to start weight lifting in January as that's where championships are won.

Everybody in Greenwood can see the writing on the walls. If it happens the way I think it will, we'll be back as a contenders again. Not because of 4a ball but because of the coach. Regardless Sparky knows what he's doing and what this football team needs. He's doing everything in his power to make that happen.

Sparky is going to pick the best candidate of the coaches that applied. When Dan Pippin was selected we didn't have football people making the decisions. We do now. We have nothing to worry about.

A coach with creativity is needed. Nobody is waiting on anything. The interviews at least for 1 coach I know has been set.

No disrespect but Liner is not the answer for Greenwood. He is too mediocre and not creative. Region 1 5A was terrible this season. Every team in Region 1 was no good.

Greenwood needs a solid coach who is proven like Gene Cathcart, Greg Porter, Jarvis Davis, or Jamie Nickles. In that order!

Here's what I know for a fact. Greenwood will hire a proven winner. Someone who's already won a state title or titles. I know at least 3 that's applied who have those credentials. I know of some others that were contacted not sure if they applied or not. No point in dropping names as it only matters who we hire in the end. We'll be good. No need to worry.

Agree with what most are saying. We need a coach that knows how to win a championship. We don't have time for someone who's still trying to figure it out like Pippin. Well he never figured it out but that's off topic. I believe in Mike Hudson and whatever he chooses.

To add on Chad Evans the current Greenwood principal was on staff with Emerald during their 1998 state title run and victory. Like Hudson, Evans had also been around winning. Neither were around for the Dan Pippin hiring. That pretty much says it all. Constant losses to Laurens, Easley, Westside, Hanna, and Hillcrest. Embarrassing. Only time Dula lost to any of those teams were when we went 2-9 in 1997. Only time Cathcart lost to any of those teams was his last year coming off and undefeated region and state title year in 2012. Even then Cathcart only lost to Hillcrest 21-16 with the go ahead td called back. The same Hillcrest that won it all the next year in the big 16. As long as we hire a championship coach we'll be back in the mix very soon. Luckily Pippin left before the program was completely destroyed.
