The 3 we've been discussing in the last few posts are what my source is telling me. Not Cathcart though according to my source.*Topcat* wrote:Who are they?

They're wrapping things up at Greenwood. Should know who the next coach is this coming week.viking4life wrote:Have they started interviewing yet at Greenwood or Emerald?

Re: Greenwood
This can solve everything. Have Liner ever beat Porter while coaching at Laurens High?

I like Liner as a person but he's not the guy for the job. He needs to prove that he can win a state title at Laurens first or at least get runner-up.

Re: Greenwood
I agree. My vote goes for Porter. Liner is a greenwood guy and most of the community is pulling for him to get the job. The good ole boys in greenwood don't really know about Porter. They better ask someone. From what I was told winning at Hillcrest isn't the easiest thing to do, let alone winning a state title in the big 16/5a.StateChampsGHS wrote:I like Liner as a person but he's not the guy for the job. Re: Greenwood
An interesting point came up at a old coaches luncheon the other day when we were discussing team openings. When Greenwood people have talked about what they want in a coach is consistency I look at Porter’s record and I see that yes he won a State Championship in 2014, but I also see every other year beyond 2015 in 2016 6-6 and 2018 5-5. He wins every other year and then left to go to another school that was in a lower classification. Hmm...Make me think is this the best person to bring this town together. Incidentally the lunch was in Greenwood. The Mills House is a great place for pizza.
Liner may be your best option being from Greenwood and understanding the culture and people of the community. Hope he gets the job.

Re: Greenwood
As I've had to explain to someone else about Porter. You have to look at where he won at. Hillcrest is not a football school. I live up here and my kids attended Hillcrest. Niece and nephew attend currently. It doesn't support football like Greenwood and doesn't have the same demographics. We don't have a bunch of athletes running around in Simpsonville, it's a Greenville suburb. There is probably more focus on the band than there is football. That's a fact. The fact that he could come in and win at a school like this is impressive. Greenwood only beat Hillcrest once in the last 5 years with him there. This is a school that people used to schedule for homecoming. You really can't compare them. As for Liner, I like him as a person. But look at the overall record. Porter actually has the better record and a championship at non-football focused schools. This isn't about politics. But I feel like that's what's going to happen in the end. I could be wrong. I hope I am.Damefan wrote:An interesting point came up at a old coaches luncheon the other day when we were discussing team openings. Re: Greenwood
He went to Greenville High for better football support and a little bump in salary I'm sure. As I said, Hillcrest isn't really a football school. Schools in this county don't pay high incomes for football coaches in general like the traditional football schools do.

Porter might had those down years but he still beat Liner's team those years except one year. See below:Damefan wrote:An interesting point came up at a old coaches luncheon the other day when we were discussing team openings. 2014 - Laurens 7; Hillcrest 40
2015 - Laurens 7; Hillcrest 28
2016 - Laurens 21; Hillcrest 14
2017 - Laurens 6; Hillcrest 39
2018 - Laurens 24; Hillcrest 42
Porter is more consistent head to head matchup against Liner.
What y'all think about that?
