Does the board wish to have an out of the way section devoted to all things cars and motor racing?

Yes! I have been waiting for a special section devoted to cars and racing.

No! This board is just for prep sports. Use twitter and Facebook and texting for car talk.

I don't care as long as it does not disrupt high school and college discussions.

The ZL-1 as you know it was a special 427 V8 powered drag beast from 1969 and its 2012 counterpart follows the same formula. Chevrolet took the biggest and most powerful engine GM has got – 6.2-liter supercharged V8 and stuffed it into the Camaro. The result was 580 HP street terror with highly advanced Magnetic Ride suspension, performance Goodyear tires, Brembo brakes and lots more.

Ford wasn't resting on it's laurels. 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 - It's every host's worst nightmare. You fuss and fret to make everything perfect, redecorating inside and out, upgrading to the best, most powerful entertainment systems, and then...nobody comes. You can't blame Ford for overpreparing. The ruffians that were expected to crash the Mustang's perennial sales party looked tough -- particularly the 500-plus-hp Camaro Z/28. Party preparations in the drivetrain included adding knock sensors to the Ford GT-based, Eaton-supercharged 5.4L engine for the first time. This enabled more aggressive spark-advance timing to fatten the torque curve and improve throttle response, though peak output equals the KR's: 540 hp and 510 lb-ft.

Inside and out, the 2010 Shelby GT500 feels more special than the outgoing model, from its unique front and rear appearance -- optimized for ideal aerodynamic balance at speeds of 120 or more -- to its dressier cabin with leather stripes stitched into the leather and Alcantara seats color-matched to the racing stripes on the outside.

Man I am telling you the new year has brought 3 exciting World of Outlaw late model races to the fans done at the Vado Speedway in New Mexico. Holy cow January has lit up the racing world Night 1 went to Chris Smokey Madden in a barn burner.

              https://worldofoutlaws.com/latemodels/s ... vent=25077

Night 2 was a helluva race as well as a Canadian from Manitoba came down and stole a victory away

Night 3 had to be race of the year candidate for the 2020 season and it saw a so called small time team steal the finale and the 15K pay day and the way that Cade Dillard did it was impressive with the clean slide job with 9 to go over the defending champ Brandon Sheppard

This week is going to be a very cool week for racing. The Wild West Shootout takes place over the next week and it also has its own points fund and some pretty cool incentives to try and win all the races and the points fund. They start Friday January 10th and it will run all week and end on Sunday January 19th out in Arizona.

This Mustang is related to a snake - Cobra that is.

Ford is about to introduce its most powerful street-legal model ever. Arriving in the fall of 2019, the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will make 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque from its 5.2-liter supercharged V-8. This output is quite an improvement from the last GT500 that offered 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. Ford estimates a 0-60 mph time of about 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of less than 11 seconds. It is said to be so much quicker than the GT350 that it needs hood pins to keep its heavily vented composite hood locked down.

Like the L88 racing engine, Zora Duntov made the ZL1 available as a regular production option (RPO) but was rarely ordered because of its high price of $4,010 on top of the $1,032 L88 option. This made the ZL1 option the most expensive engine ever offered by GM. Furthermore, the engine wasn’t as thoroughly tested as the L88 which had already proven itself in 1967 by winning at Daytona.

The all-aluminum engine was cast entirely differently than the 427 in L88 model, having larger block thickness and increased support webbing. It was developed from the ground up and benefited from the lessons learned with the 283 in³ all-aluminum engine. The first versions were used in 1967/68 by Chaparral for the Can-Am season. Suffering from major leak issues due to the porosity of aluminum, the ZL1 reached final specification in 1968 and was sold in certain Camaros and Corvettes or sold over the counter for about $2000.

The 1969 ZL1 motor was the most powerful engine that was ever offered in an American built automobile back then. It was the direct descendent of the L88 and the all aluminum Can Am racing engine of the same era. Although factory rated at 430 hp, the actual output was more like 585 hp.
