I don't understand how some of you think the Georgia High School league is a small pond lol?
You still ain't gettin' it. Go play teams from OH, FL, TX, CA. Then you will understand that term.
And to touch on what RC was saying earlier concerning how national championships we're determined back in 92, we didn't have the amount of interstate play like we do today. Today, we actually see some of the best teams from other states playing one another. Let Valdosta get out there and prove themselves.
It's a big scary world out there....past them GA borders.

Make sense?
Well the topic is about Rush Propst going to Valdosta. The article mentions Valdosta has the most wins of any high school football team. Hence the *winningest program* in the country up to date. That's it. It will be that way until a team passes them. Nowhere in the article does it claim that Valdosta is the best of the best. Neither do I. Yes, there are other big states with great football teams. No argument there. You seem to question Valdosta's historical success which was mentioned in the article so I posted their stats with a link. (on topic) Whether or not Georgia is a small pond, whether or not Valdosta plays cupcakes, whether or not Valdosta is the best of the best, or whether or not a school needs schedule and play out-of-state teams to gain national significance (off topic) Those topics can make for an excellent discussion but belong in another thread in my humble opinion.

Georgia high school football is hardly a small pond. Much deeper elite team wise than we are in SC. The teams in South Georgia are now joke. Valdosta, Colquitt, Lowndes, and a couple others can play with most anybody. And then you get into a lot of really good teams around Atlanta. Then you can get into the lower classification teams that are the pride and joy of small towns. Lots of folks in that state and a ton of excellent football.

It is quite on topic when discussing National Championships. It is quite on topic when those "said" championships are part of the argument that they are using to declare those "said" national championships. The "said championships" that they embed in their "said" storied history.

Awesome post GwoodEagle2k1. I agree with you. Valdosta has a very good Football Program and Tradition. They are the Winningest Football Team ever. So you can't say too many bad things about them. They have impressed me with their Football Tradition.

Appreciate that BeaufortEaglesFan. Sometimes it's nice to step back and appreciate other storied football programs. It's called being a high school football fan lol. Valdosta has been down in regards to their standards the past few years. Which is why they are taking a chance on Propst. He'll have to keep his nose clean though. My source tells me he's probably going to be on thin ice at Valdosta. One little behavioral slip-up and he might be gone as quickly as he was hired.

Valdosta's " proven" region titles led to their "proven" state titles which led to their " proven" 900 plus wins which is "proven" in the record books which why they are one of the "proven" storied programs in the country. High School national championships are definitely opinion-based. However, in order to be considered I'm sure you have to be a "proven" winner.

Lol, "considered" by who? On the national scene? I like how it is based on antiquated stats, before teams stacked up like they should.
