According to the CDC's latest data, the fatality rate among Americans showing COVID-19 symptoms is 0.4 percent. And an estimated 35% who are infected by the virus will never have any symptoms. Therefore, the CDC is now estimating COVID-19 kills less than 0.3 percent of people infected.

I would think that unless the virus just goes away which
does not seem likely,it will be a 100% chance that some
football players will have the virus during the season.
I agree, and that is when the season ends........
Thanks for your doctoral knowledge on this one. What experience do you have that leads you to believe an entire football season is over when one player or multiple players on one time test positive for COVID-19? What medical school did you attend? Or better yet, what government position do you hold that enables you to say that with such authority.

Using your mentality, then we are just going to shut everything down, potentially forever. At what point do we move forward? What happens if there is no vaccine that works, since it has been reported that its only a 50/50 shot that it will work? Do we stay completely locked down until we see if a virus works? What happens if it doesn't work?
Beat on your chest and talk like a big boy..................let this monster get loose and you will shut up then............as Dr. Fauci said just this morning.............."We are tempting fate and asking for trouble"..........
Seriously stop using Dr. Fauci as your source. He has flip flopped this whole time. I can pull up multiple quotes on when he said things can and should open back up. Then the next week he is saying the opposite.
With that said, I will ask again. Using your scenario. When do things open back up? Science, throughout history, has shown us that immune systems weaken when we spend our lives in a bubble and don't "test" the immune system with different pathogens. So, lets say we lock it down until....when? When can we get back to some sense of normal life? When?
When there is a vaccine........until then we have to stay away from this monster.........20 new deaths just today............
You have to look at morbidity rates. Not just a few, but ALL of the numbers. How many people died in January of 2020? February? March? April?

Go ahead look it up. To make it easy just look up the raw numbers (to be more accurate, you really need the per capita numbers - deaths/100,000)

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

How many people died in the USA yesterday? I'll tell you, approximately 7700 died. Annual average is approximately 2.8 million, that works out to about 864/100,000. Seasonal fluctuations vary as to which particular causes is the cause of death do fluctuate (influenza season usually runs October-March, the first work day after the switch to daylight savings time is usually the single deadliest day to be on the road, most drownings occur in the summer months, etc..). These are all numbers that reflect the averages from the past 5 years.

Again what are the morbidity rates? If you want to look at SPECIFIC causes of death why stop at just those attributed to the Wuhan Flu? What is happening with suicide rates? Death because of cardiovascular disease? Death on highways?

IF we lock down everyone and make them stay at home. In turn if that contributes to a 10% reduction in traffic fatalities (40,000/year down to 36,000 = 4,000 less), but because of job loss/loss of human interaction/etc.. suicide rates increase 10% (47,000/year up to 51,700 = 4700 more) what is the net effect? We know that job loss and increasing isolation contribute to suicide. Even in my example of a simple linear exchange between two causes of death that could possibly attributed to this disease and the associated lock down, to get a clear picture you have to look at ALL of the morbidity rates.

Here's a better question, when was the last time the state of New York reported a death caused by influenza?

Someone recently posted about "just wear your N95 mask", well I have 2 daughters who are nurses and as they explained it to me the N95 mask must be fitted to you to work effectively. Ask any medical, EMT, or Fireman and they can confirm this. They are not any different than any other mask if not fitted to you size-wise. I just thought I would share this tidbit since someone brought it up.

Ok, thanks for answering. How does our country operate for those next 12 months? We have never had a lockdown more than 2 months. Even the Spanish Flu, we only "locked down" for a month.
Some are now questioning if the lockdowns even really did anything to prevent the deaths.

https://mises.org/wire/do-lockdowns-wor ... ce-says-no

Also, how do we handle the evidence in the uptick of child/spousal abuse? Remember, teachers and guidance counselors are the #1 source way abuse is uncovered. By keeping kids out of school, we aren't able to see the abuse happening. How do we handle a year of at home learning for children? Molly Spearman has noted that almost 50,000 students in South Carolina have not been heard from since they went to e-learning. If parents cannot go to work, how are essential jobs handled? All of this for a disease which clearly does not have major implications for those under the age of 65. In fact, the seasonal flu has a higher death rate on those under 60 than COVID-19.

What worth are you putting into the lives of those that are unable to get medical treatment due to it not being deemed "essential" like cancer screenings or chemotherapy, heart appointments, etc, etc, etc?

At the end of the day, that is what has to (and is currently being) be weighed. On one hand, we can argue that lives are "saved" with a lockdown, although that is currently being debated with evidence of the majority of New York City "positives" coming from those that are staying in "lockdown".

And of course there is the biggest question. Is all of this heartache and death that WILL happen from a lockdown worth it for a 50/50 shot that a vaccine would actually work. ESPECIALLY when only half of the US population would even get the vaccine https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronaviru ... would-get/

So what happens then? Say the vaccine doesn't work (which has been stated is only a 50/50 shot). Also, what if only 50% get the vaccine? What then?

The point is a lockdown until a potential vaccine will clearly do more harm than good. 38 of the 50 states that have ended lockdowns have seen leveling off or a downturn in positive cases DESPITE increased testing. Time will tell, for sure. But at the end of the day, we can continue to go round and round on this, but it doesn't matter. High School football is happening. Your opinion or mine does not matter.
These are all excellent questions that our government, who we pay taxes like royalty to, should have resolved long before this pandemic ever hit.............in a country like america, we can't sit in the middle of the road and wait on a truck to come and then worry about getting out of the way...........we should be way ahead of any pandemic or other germ issue..........everything, ligistically and finacia;lly should already be in place and if the lockdown does come, everyone knows what to do and what to expect...............a blueprint for EVERYTHING is already in place and citizens just follow the blueprint...........THE BIG QUESTION is are we just as unreday for another disaster, like a power grid attack, terrorist attack, enemy attack or other surprise dangers...........we couldn't have done a worse job than this, and that is the reason for the excellent questions that you asked.........

Do you understand the reason for a state of emergency? It is put into place to give the Governor unilateral ability to do things. For example: to mobilize the national guard, etc. It is extremely common for this to happen and isn't a surprise. Its likely to be longer than July 1st, unless the legislation fights it, which some are currently doing. So, the point is a "state of emergency" doesn't necessarily indicate the status of situations.
Also, once again you are not reflecting the increase in testing when discussing positive cases. Yesterday the positive rate was only 2.5%. So only 2.5% of tests are positive, that is significantly lower than when we first started testing (which had numbers north of 15% positive). ANY doctor will tell you percent positives and hospital bed utilization is the key number to focus on. As of yesterday, we had less than 390 people, statewide, currently being treated in medical facilities for COVID-19 or "suspected" COVID-19 cases. Thats out of over 12,000 hospital beds. That number has stayed right at 400 for almost a month and not grown. That is, by definition, "flattening of the curve".
With all of that said, its comical how you have moved the goal line on this discussion. It started off on how will the SCHSL protect players and coaches? You argued that it wasn't going to happen, forget about it, football was toast. Now that it has become clear that football is going to happen (as workouts start next week), you are taking to arguing about case loads and states of emergency. It is evident you are going to "die on that hill" so nothing else can really be said. Even when the facts AND reality is against what you say, you can't back off.
So, with that said, Die on that hill, no one can pull you off of it.

Your comments above prove everything that has been suspected of you. This is a built in political bias, on your part. The virus is nothing more, to you, than an opportunity to air your grievances with the current political climate. Nothing further you say carries any merit because your built in bias is too strong.
