Models for Reopening Schools

Post by Damefan »

Listening to this dialogue it sounds like it "could" be that different counties could be in different reopening situations. The question will be what will that do for the athletic schedules?? And what happens if a school district changes midstream, what will be the ramifications toward the playoffs for that team or teams??

All great questions.........my guess would be that school districts will not even travel down the football road as long as these questions can't be answered......

I have a good friend who's wife is one the advisors to the State Superintendent of Education. In a conference call last Friday, it was determined that school would open in August as planned. It was also determined that "unless" there is a significant decline in the spread of Covid-19, that all classes would be via remote learning until such time as the spread was under control. This does not bode well for Football, or any other extracurricular activities. Just some information from sources on the inside.

Dd2 sent out surveys this week.we shall see. 1300 today 890 yesterday is about with the 1100 average for the last week or 10 days.
Im nIt arguing with you but i doubt the state superintendent knows what the heck is going on the never do about anything else .they would have to have a epiphany to have thier stuff together .
The only thing anyine knows is they do not want to be blamed for anything.
But thanks fir your insight.

My next door neighbor is the Department Of Social Services Manager for the entire lower half of the State. She has had conference calls with the Governor and the entire State of South Carolina Covid-19 response team since the 1st of March. We are in a very bad spot with the virus right now with little to no plan to effectively stop the spread. Hospitals are filling up and Healthcare workers are being overwhelmed. Supplies are much better now than 3 months ago, but not at levels necessary to combat this thing.

The original estimate was for 400 confirmed cases in Beaufort County. We are nearing 1000 with no end in sight. Do not look for any positive reports any time soon. Short of a massive home confinement, officials do not look to get this under control any time soon. The news is not promising. I, for one, am not going to listen to any politicians try to tell me about Medical and Healthcare issues. I am going to listen to trained professionals in their field, who have no ulterior motives to lie about it.

This will not be ignored away. It will not be hoped away. It will certainly not be prayed away. This will require some serious scientific efforts to manufacture a vaccine to eradicate it. This is a worldwide crisis that is going to take worldwide co-operation to contain. There are hundreds of thousands of very smart people working on this right now, and they have determined that there is no simple answer.

While there are numerous voices that are trying to downplay the urgency of this virus by trying to deflect it's potential harm, by saying that other aspects of life are more important. Especially those talking about the economy. I submit to you that a man can be poor and recover, but he cannot be dead and recover. Given the choice........well, there is no choice. As for sports, yes they play a vital role in today's society. That is one thing that we all can agree upon. That is the purpose of this website. But the young men who choose to play these games, are someone's children, and they need to be protected from taking unnecessary risks.

Please keep things in proper perspective. Think about the well being of others, not just yourselves. Let's all band together and do our part to help put this virus behind us, once and for all by not taking unnecessary risks. Wear your masks when out in public. Distance yourself from others whenever possible. Be clean and sanitary. And help anyone that needs help. There may come a time when it is you, or your family member who needs that help. We can be part of the problem, or we can be part of the solution. None of us will die from a lack of Football, but we cannot say the same for this virus. Please stay safe.

Charleston County Schools just announce that an online option will be available for all parents not wishing to send their kids back to school in the fall.
