Going away from the fastback style of the original Charger, the body of the 1968 model was a curvy notchback, with an integrated front bumper, lower hood-line, and flying buttress rear window. Although the body was completely redesigned, the potent array of large V-8 engines remained. And added to the line-up was the Dodge Charger R/T, which proved to be a winner in both sales and performance.

Except for the white interior, this one looks just like the one my brother owned.





A 383-cid V-8 (4.25" bore by 3.375" stroke) was offered in two versions. The two-barrel motor had a compression ratio of 9.2:1 and produced 290 horsepower. A four-barrel carb and 10.0:1 compression came with the high-performance version, with a power output of 330 horsepower.

The 440 cubic inch V-8 (4.32" bore by 3.75" stroke) was rated at 375 horsepower. A new Carter AVS 4-barrel replaced the smaller AFB style. The 426 Hemi (4.25" bore by 3.75" stroke) had two four-barrel carbs and ran a C.R. of 10.25:1. Power output was rated at 425 horsepower. Three transmissions were available, a three-speed manual, optional 4-speed manual and 3-speed Torqueflite automatic

Chuck was always a Ford guy. Got a hand me down rusted, wet green Mach 1 and rebuilt it from the ground up.

Yeah Chuck's was a 1970 Mach 1. McQueen drove a 68 fastback.

I think Chuck had taken the 302 out of the original machine and found a Cleveland engine from another Mustang rusting in the woods. He got the 2nd one running also. Maybe he switched engines. Who knows? His brother Dave is getting the muscle car bug. He used to whip around in a cherry red hard top 68 Mustang coupe. Sold it after it stopped running but when DJ bought his Javelin, Dave went out and bought a red 68 Mustang for parts. He's looking for another 68 to work on. Ash and DJ are working together almost every day on cars. Ash had to switch out the cam, one of the lobes was grooved all to Hell. Apparently Ash and DJ did such a good job the guy left the car for them to work on another problem his car is having.

That boy is something else. Just bought $367 worth of Harbor Freight tools for $250. Found a Youtube channel where a guy holds up his Harbor Freight coupons to the camera once a month. Ash screenshots them and then prints them out to use at the store. There's some verbal cue he gives the tellar so she won't be inclined to scan the bar code. I got to get this boy on Wallstreet.

Former Florence Motor Speedway owner Charlie Powell has died

FLORENCE, S.C. − Former Florence Motor Speedway owner Charlie Powell has died, per Florence Motor Speedway's Facebook page.
"It is with profound sadness to address the passing of one of the greatest people to ever grace short track racing, especially down here in the Southeast," the post stated. "This is never a post we would ever want to deliver, but with our deepest regret, we have unfortunately lost Charlie Powell."

Powell was the 1996 national promoter of the year. [He] was also Florence Motor Speedway's owner when Dale Earnhardt Jr. won a feature race there in 1998. Powell had owned the property since 1995. Before owning FMS, Powell owned Summerville Speedway.
