When you cut down on testing, you cut down on reported cases. But you don't cut down on the true number of people with the virus. Just sayin'.

Re: NEXT WEEK, THE NUMBERS THAN CAN PLAY TOGETHER GO WAY UP
The decline in deaths is proof that the decline in infections is real, it is not caused by less testing because testing has no effect on deaths. The CDC wrote:Daily Deaths is the best indication of the progression of the pandemic, although there is generally a 17-21 day lag between infection and death.
Please note, they are not counting people who died of Covid-19, they are counting patients with Covid-19 that died (regardless of cause).
Infections are down 2/3rds from the peak. Deaths, which are lagging as described by the CDC, are down by 1/3rd.

Just.........read the damn thing........masks and social distancing are working. Nobody is saying that we are near the worst that we have been, or are on an upward trajectory. What I am saying, what SCDHEC is saying, is that the number of positive tests are lower and part of that is due to fewer tests. I posted a meme trying to show you that just because you are right about what you say, that doesn't mean that I am wrong about what I said. You are trying to cyber bully me and I do not appreciate it. You are ignoring facts and denying the truth by not acknowledging the truth about reduced testing. I never said that we are not on a much better path going forward and that all indicators are down. I just said that the number of tests are down, and that is a fact, no matter how much it gets in the way of something else.

You're meme makes a valid point and your stated premise is also true: Fewer positive tests does not prove there are fewer people with infections, it just proves that we detected fewer. Lower testing rates could cause that, depending on the reason there were fewer tests conducted.Penguin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 6:19 pmJust.........read the damn thing........masks and social distancing are working. But then I posted additional information, the daily death rate. The CDC and DHEC both state that the death rate is the best indicator of the pandemic's progression. The curve of the daily death rate supports the inference that the infection rates are truly lower and are not the result of lower testing.
More additional information.... The testing rates did decline from mid-July to mid-August but since then they have gone back up and are now higher than they were previously. We increased the testing rate yet the rate of positive tests continues to fall.

Re: NEXT WEEK, THE NUMBERS THAN CAN PLAY TOGETHER GO WAY UP
The death rate does not take into account the advances in treatment regimens nor take into account age related cases which directly relate to mortality rates. Yes, mortality rates are down, as are the overall numbers of new cases. The new report from Tuscaloosa today is a prime indicator of what can be expected when putting students back on campus.
Looking back to the end of May when restrictions were released and the resultant surge of new cases should be the number one indicator of the proper ways to proceed and what precautions to take. It is completely irresponsible to just make a blanket statement about reduced cases, reduced deaths, and use that as a basis for further reducing precautions and making knee jerk decisions about a disease that we still know so relatively little about. The long term harms to those infected, while not fatal, may be far worse than anyone has imagined.
To my way of seeing things, proceeding with extreme caution seems to be the logical choice.
