Got it.
He made one crucial mistake at Byrnes; he tried to be "one of the guys" and not "The Coach". Coach Lane lost control of the team. He's really a good coach and a good man and most Byrnes folks wish him the best. I hope he learned from the experience and goes on to greater things.
The best I can do is relate it to this story...DeCav wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 6:14 pmOne of the guys?
Was this all on him? Or were there external pressures for him to conform? Parents?
Sounds like maybe the Doc Davis scenario. Except Doc didn't try to be one of the boys.
Shame it didn't work out for Byrnes. I've heard some Byrnes fans who seemed a bit ambivalent about him and his departure. Never really sensed any undercurrents from the program. Except maybe a story here or there about a position on the team that didn't have the best player for it?
Would be interesting to know the story.
This is a great post.Onion Rings wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 7:53 pmClover had a special year last year with a super accurate qb that transferred in from York for his senior year. The qb and Lane's son had a connection like few I've ever seen. Lane was virtually uncover-able because the qb (Carroll) could put it right where it needed to be every time
add 3 defensive starters from York and you had the makings of a really special season
if you saw Clover play, you know the impact these 4 players had
Coach Lane deserves the credit because he got the players and put it all together. The real test will be how he does now that they are gone
do they reload like Dorman (they have about the same number of students) or drop off. We will see
