Re: Calling All Elder Statesmen
OK so for the Daniel high posters on here the games between Gaffney and Daniel were some pretty good games seems like we went down there a couple of times and then yall came here a couple of times and then we stopped playing yall. Seems like i remember a year where we went down there and yall had footballs with green stripes going long ways from nose to nose lol. I sure wish we could start those games back up too
Re: Calling All Elder Statesmen
Im not an “elder statesmen” so I hope I don’t get ridiculed for posting here, but Daniel and Gaffney were in talks about playing in the 2018-19 seasons. I know this because the AD would ask a couple seniors if they had any teams they wanted to play. Me and a few other seniors suggested Gaffney knowing how the games back in the 90’s were so competitive. Unfortunately since Gaffney had such a big region schedule and already had non-region games lined up in the dates we had available it didn’t work out.racincowboy02 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 2:49 pmOK so for the Daniel high posters on here the games between Gaffney and Daniel were some pretty good games seems like we went down there a couple of times and then yall came here a couple of times and then we stopped playing yall. Re: Calling All Elder Statesmen
We always loved playing Gaffney . Y’all were big 16 and we were one of the smallest 3a schools around back then.
We always felt if we could even be competitive with y’all which we were in most of the games that we could play with anybody in the state . Those were tough games in particular in 92 when we beat y’all at home and won 3a that year and y’all won big 16. The next year we went to the old reservation which was not for the faint of heart if you had never experienced it and y’all were #1 and we were # 2 in all classification in the entire state. Y’all punted to a freshman named Antwon Black who was are qb on 95 state team and went to UNC he mugged the punt and we lost.
We missed the playoffs that year losing 4 games by a combined 15 points. I wish we played at least one big boy team from over that way every year. You might lose but it prepared you.

Saw Barnwell beat Langley-Bath-Clearwater (LBC) in overtime (Montana Playoff) at Judge Hughes Stadium at the Orangeburg Fairgrounds in the 1954 State Championship game. Barnwell had beaten Summerville the week before at Carolina Stadium in a game which had an inadvertant whistle which changed the game.

Nah man wasn’t bustin on the old res at all , I love the old gritty dirty stadiums with the character. I miss old singleton field at Daniel, there was always something in the air it seemed. One of my favorites was Bruce field in Easley you always felt like you were on top of the field. Even old ginilette field in Seneca was awesome even if you had to look around the light poles. Everything now is cookie cutter and all the stadiums in every district is built the same way. I don’t like it.

I went down to the old Mayo high school in Darlington years ago
To watch 96 play the Golden Bears. That was an intimidating place.
That is one game I was glad to see my Wildcats lose
