Much Respect to Chris Liner!!!
Much Respect to Chris Liner!!!
I was openly one of the ones that wanted Greg Porter to be the new Gwd coach. I was skeptical about Liner because of his record at Laurens and Porter had already won hardware. This is me eating my crow about Liner. Couldn't have been more wrong about him. I guess sometimes coaching records don't matter. Just needs to be the right fit. The kids really respond well to him. Haven't seen anything like this since the Cathcart/Dula eras. I guess I should have known better since Liner is actually one of us. A Greenwood product. If anyone knows about this community and these kids it would be a Greenwood native. This past friday, Greenwood came with something they haven't had since Cathcart was the coach. A NASTY READY TO HIT YOU IN THE MOUTH ATTITUDE. That was the main thing we needed back in our program. I don't know what Greenwood will be this year but for the 1st time in years I'm actually excited about it! I'm excited about the cold weather and running the football the way we do. I'm excited that we do QB sneaks under center in short yard situations instead of lining up in shotgun and get tackled for a 6 yard loss in the backfield. I'm excited that we scored 50 points against an actual good team and not just somebody brewer middle school could beat. No disrespect to my bulldogs I'm just excited about the future. These coaches we have now actually CARE! They actually give a crap if we lose or don't play our best instead of the lack luster attitude we had to watch the past few years. No matter what happens this year, I'm excited about the future with Coach Liner and company. New beginnings? Nah.....Just getting back to our old selves.

Liner is a first class, what you see is what you get, kind of coach. Greenwood has a lot to look forward to.
A couple of years ago he held spring practice at Laurens and didn’t have enough arms to workout the receivers. Liner recognized the problem he asked a kid from the SCiSA school down the street to come over and help with drills. The kid was a sophomore QB and pretty good and their school didn’t have spring practice. Kid had no intention of leaving his school but had a good relationship with Liner and agreed to practice. Point is, Liner gets it done!

The Northside team I played on back in 2000 beat the previously undefeated Brewer bulldogs 28-6. Just saying...ManigoEra wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 8:11 amNorthside own the city in football? Greenwood did not need Porter. Total lack of discipline, which Greenwood needed badly.
