Citadel would be a nice option .coastal carolina.
Theyd probably welcome it.
To be honest usc has made what shoukd be simple parking a real pain. Rolled my ankle last year walking to the 5aaaa game .crapy sidewalk .took breaks limped in .
Whike the lot across frim it was closed for some kinda event .and 90% if not more was open.ckemson treated us better.
No home field .saw that at irmo in 1980 .no
Personally I wouldn’t mind Clemson being the title game location. Just a short drive to possibly watch my Lions and a few more games play on a Saturday. But, think SCSU’s stadium might also be a viable option. In the end he’s gonna go with the higher seed gets home field option. Or he picks a high schools stadium in the Columbia area, like Spring Valley or River Bluff to host.
Clemson is unlikely as they have to keep their stadium available for potential ACC game changes. This is the same issue that South Carolina has. While both are currently scheduled to be "on the road" that weekend, conference schedules have already changed game dates multiple times and Universities are being told to stay flexible.
Maybe the schl could do it in a sunday.
The issue remains potential future games at South Carolina and Clemson. In the past, state championships are held after all games are played at the college stadiums, so no future concern for field conditions. To play a game or games on a field just 24 hours (or less) after one was potentially played and potentially just 6 days prior to the next game, in December, is a disaster waiting to happen. Clemson and South Carolina just aren't feasible due to the uncertainty around COVID for planning of ACC/SEC games. The SCHSL is aware and thats why they have moved on.

For those saying play it at the higher seeded team, I remind you that all teams will be either #1 or #2 so if two #1 seeds make it to the finals, which is the higher seeded team?

As for location, if they are going to wait for a while, just wait until it gets closer and then use Furman, Coastal, Citadel, Benedict, SCSU, and other options as needed. Should 5A come down to Gaffney -vs- Dutch Fork, look at Presbyterian College for example or Newberry. Wofford would be another possible option.

The only people who are worried about the location are the fans because the teams and coaches are only concerned with the area between the lines.

Clemson will not have students returning after Thanksgiving...
So I would say they probably won't host any high school championships...
Dutch Fork and Spring Valley are big enough for the size crowds this year...

As for the Summerville vs Irmo championships...
1978 was at SC STATE
1979 was at the Citadel.
1980 was at Irmo...

I stand corrected, just got of the phone with a former Irmo coach who told me that they use to rotate between the Upper State and Lower State back in the day.

By the way, if I am not correct the Summerville vs Irmo game of 1980 that I attended where Irmo won was at Benedict that year and I know for a fact was never played at Irmo. I am an Alumni! Time to go do something important like play golf!!

That game was 100% played at Irmo!!!

Summerville/ Irmo 1980 was played at Irmo home stadium. They painted the grass green and it bleed into the kids shoes and uniforms!
