OT: A Car/Racing section?

My first car was a red & black 1972 Grand Prix. I bought it in 1985 when I was stationed at Naval Air Station Norfolk.

"We finance E-1 and up!! No credit check. Buy here, pay here!!"

Nice ride. Pontiac later came out with the Grand Am. Those were some nice rides as well. The looked like they were built on the Chevelle frame and had that iconic bullet hood on them. And the doors....man those doors were as big as a football field! LOL

In the decades since, GM has tried on at least three occasions to revive the idea, using the F-body platform to create midsize two-door wagons based upon the Chevrolet Camaro or the Pontiac Firebird. None progressed far beyond the concept stage (at least with GM), but that doesn't mean they weren't noteworthy.

I think I'm kinda done with the retro muscle car era. When VW brought the bug back and then dodge did their things with the trucks followed by Ford and the Mustangs, I thought, "Thank GOD! Finally some personality again."

I think perhaps for my own tastes it was all too successful? The stangs became tragically common along with the Dodges too. It's probably not going to happen for crash zone reasons but I'd really like to see a resurgence of sleeker designs and some more roadsters. Cars today are just too rhoided out for me somehow. I think my boy has the same aesthetic. He adores is little 91 rebuilt Miata and owns two motorcycles now. Ain't even 19 years old and he's on a serious fast track for a fun, successful life and I got him this far without him taking a single drink or puff so if the good Lord took me out today I'd say except for a serviceable grandfather for his future kids I've given him about all he needs.

And yeah, I'm sayin on his gf's side there's fk all to count on for the grandfather figure so I'll have to make sure I stick around a whole lot longer.
