So, as I stated before, PERFECTION will NEVER happen.
So therefore we don't need to strive for it?
My TV isn't perfect, but it's much better than when we had rabbit ear antenas and were lucky to get 3 channels.
Cell phone coverage has gaps but compared to what they were just a few years ago, no doubt which is better.
You are 100% correct, no playoff system is going to be "perfection" but if we can find ways to make improvements to the system, I think we should keep tweaking. Sometimes the tweaks will be good, and sometimes they will be bad. Even if through some miracle we were to find the perfect system, not everyone will be happy with that system. There would be those who wouldn't like some aspect of that perfect system....
I was responding to Onion Rings saying that the goal was to get the best teams in the playoffs. Absent every person charged with making such a decision, seeing every game by every team, conjecture will be the net result. As with the NCAA Basketball Tourney, no matter what number you determine to be in, someone will be left out who is undoubtedly, more qualified. That is where I say that perfection will never be achieved.
As for tweaks, I agree, tweak things to try and make them better. But remember this, "better" is also a subjective term, and what is "better" to you, may not be "better" to someone else. My opinion is that the SCHSL is now "tweaking" things, and some people (me) like what they are doing, while others (you) don't. Both sides of that argument have merit. It is apparent from all of the complaining over the years, that a 32 team playoff doesn't work. It is also apparent that a "points" based system doesn't work. I remember an 8-3 Goose Creek team getting left out and a 4-7 team included.
The 16 team bracket consisting of only 1st and 2nd place Region teams, is the most fair system that I have seen in my 60 plus years. All a team has to do, is win Region games. Any complaints about that system can be solved by realignment of the Regions. Of course, then travel becomes the next issue.
I think that it is apparent that High School Football in South Carolina has outgrown it's norms. It is time to consider Football as a separate sport, and form a more equitable means of scheduling, aligning, and enforcing the rules. These new "Football Academies" need to be excluded from the normal Education based Schools. While they may be a great way to showcase a student's talent, they are in no way, shape, or form, on the same level as Education based Schools.
The "Godfather" didn't whine like The "Slobfather" is doing, when he got INDICTED!!!!!

The previous point system had plenty of tweaks needed and I mean PLENTY, but the idea has merit. I didn't like the idea that you could drop two Region Games, I understand dropping two games, but they should not be Region games. I think you should count 9 of the 10 games, give you the game that maybe brings a good gate but you wouldn't otherwise schedule. But you have to count all region games! The issue is defining those 8-3 records versus the 4-7 record. Not to belittle any team or region, but I'll go back to Boiling Springs from a few years ago.... loses to Northwestern, Dutch Fork, and T L Hanna pre-region and then loses to Dorman, Gaffney, Hillcrest & Byrnes in Region. Match that against an 8-3 team with a win over Blythewood as their biggest win. So just saying a 4-7 team gets in when an 8-3 team doesn't get in sounds like a great argument against a point system; but looks can be deceiving.

This idea is something that I've been thinking about, but there is no way the SCHSL would even put this idea on the table for discussion.

I'm not following you on this one... are you taking a jab at Dutch Fork or referring to something entirely different?
