Daniel vs Easley

Glad we get to finally see some action this year after last week’s cancellation. My Lions will host county rival Easley to kick off both teams season.

Last year it was no contest. Daniel led 48-0 in the third quarter and Easley scored two touchdowns in garbage time to make it 48-14. It was a tale of two very different teams last year where Easley was trying to get its footing with a new head coach and they were going up against a team that was on track for a state championship. This year has the possibility to be different.

Daniel returns most starters from last years team and will be tough to beat. In the preseason games the team looked unstoppable except for a sloppy game against Greenville, which they still won. Only questions to me are depth with the secondary and linebackers but we’ll see how it goes hopefully players step up when called on.

Easley has a decent group put together with their second year coach who I think will eventually get this school on track to be a player in 4A soon. But I think this year will be another year of building the program with young pieces across the field. I do think by the end of the regular season they could win their region or have a home playoff game but time will tell.

My prediction for the game is a big Daniel win. It could be a closer game but that is unlikely. A lot has to go right for Easley and a lot has to go wrong for Daniel. The D-Line for Daniel can shut this game down fast and if so it’ll be a long night for Easley’s offense. My score prediction is 52-7 Daniel.

In all seriousness I just want the game to go smooth with no injuries.

I’m just hoping for a clean efficient game and no running clock. We need to get work in especially for younger less experienced players. Even if it’s at someone else’s expense. There’s no guarantee on any game with the over reaction to cancel because someone’s cousin got covid and thinks they might have been near someone three days ago that’s on the team. We need the plays. Hopefully we can pick up another opponent in the bye week.

It took a while to get going but we get the 54-21 win over Easley. The refs had them flags flying for Daniel in the first half. Easley got to have a kickoff from the Daniel 15 something I’ll never see again. But I’m sure Coach Fru put the fear of God into them in the field house at halftime and we scored 33 unanswered points to pull away.

I want to make a separate post about the amount of flags that were thrown in the game because my Lord it was unbelievable to witness. There was a stretch in the second quarter where I think they threw a flag after every play on Daniel. That is not an exaggeration either. Easley had a few big plays that go them in scoring position and I’ll give them that credit but Daniel had two touchdowns called back and it wouldn’t have been close had this not happened. I will also say this, I’m sure not every flag was meaningless because let’s be real there’s a hold going on somewhere on the field but it was just out of hand tonight.

And in my previous post where I mentioned the Easley kick off from the Daniel 15, it was because there were 3 personal fouls on Daniel when Easley scored a touchdown. I did get a laugh out of watching the refs walk the kickoff teams from the Easley 40 to the Daniel 15.

Stretch pretty much said it all
Except the long pass plays we had called back
The muffed punt by Easley that we recovered out in the open with no one around that they gave back to Easley
The sack in the second half that was at best a fumble but at worst a 20 yard sack
The Easley qb as he’s getting slammed hits the ball on the ground and we recover and they call it an incomplete pass

The 3 penalties that led to a onside kick from our 15 that recovered at the 2 was something I’m sure I will never see again.

But whatever we need to sure up the backside on defense
The only reason Easley scored

Jaheim Lawson is an absolute beast
Doubt anyone in 3a will be to handle him
There might not be anyone in the state that can

Played lights out 3rd quarter and look like we finally started clicking
