Bad special teams play by Byrnes, and good special teams play by Gaffney. But agree, special teams played a part in this one, as they usually do

Special teams play are critical. Not judging Shaw here because I am sure Byrnes works hard on special teams. But just seeing different teams this year it is painfully obvious that there are a lot of programs that pay little attention to special teams other than just taking a few minutes to get them lined up during walk through. Have seen some truly atrocious special teams play because it is obvious it isn't practiced.

Positive side of things and looking at the glass half way full...is Byrnes get a bye week and to me will be playing for Shaw job against Spartanburg .

I hate to say it, but a loss to Spartanburg could mean no playoffs for the Rebels.... that is if the playoffs are just two teams per Region again this season. Still haven't see brackets posted at the SHSL website, so I don't know if they are going to go with the same format as last year or back to the 32 team bracket. A loss to the Vikings would most likely mean that we had to win out to have a chance at the playoffs unless everyone ended up 2-2 and we get in by some weird tie breaker.

Looking ahead at Region II,
I believe most folks think Dorman will have shaken off the cobwebs and get back to playing like we expected them to play and will go 4-0 in the Region.

I think most people are not buying Riverside yet, but do expect that they will beat Wade Hampton to finish 1-3 and Wade Hampton will be 0-4 in the Region.

That leaves next week's match up against Spartanburg at Byrnes as the deciding factor for the second spot in the playoffs.

As for the comment about playing for his job, I'm not there yet. I don't think the AD and the Board are at that point. Some of the fans are absolutely there. The fact that we have a full orthopedic clinic walking along the sidelines in crutches and walking boots and knee braces, at least 10 in the second half at Gaffney, may need to be considered. We are down to the 5th spot on the depth chart at RB and WR has to be considered. Losing #10 changed the game completely for us Friday. We didn't score again, and didn't really threaten to score. His value to the team is amazing. I don't know Coach Shaw, don't think I've even met him, but he has made a difference and looking back, we've made it to a couple of Upper State finals and one semi-final in his time here. But, we all know how this works: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?
