Daniel vs Emerald

It’s been a while since we’ve been down to Emerald. Last time we were there I was a player, Coach Rob was our coach, and the field was grass. When we played from 2012-15 this was a very competitive matchup. But I doubt this will be competitive.

Emerald is sitting at 2-3 with wins against Ninety Six and Broome. The 3 losses came to Greenwood, Abbeville and Seneca by wide margins.

This one will likely be another big win for Daniel. I am interested to see how our defense does against the heavy run offense that Emerald uses. It’ll be a great way to see how disciplined the Lions defense is against an offense they normally don’t see often.

On offense the team just has to keep doing what they’ve been doing all year. Emerald has some big boys on the DL so the OL has to be up for the challenge but I’m sure they’ll be ready for Friday. Coach Page Wofford always told me to never use football math to compare teams, but if Seneca can put up 55 on this team then I think we’ll be just fine

Nearly got my score prediction dead on. Lions win 57-7. Emerald has some decent looking athletes on the field but they just weren’t equally matched to a team like Daniel. The only concern for Daniel’s defense was the last drive before half and the first of the second half where they let Emerald just take the ball all the way to the red zone and they converted in the second half. Other than that we had a very solid game and I’m ready for rivalry week next week.

What were some highlights

We had a few injuries, all but one were not serious. The receiver that transferred from Wren with his brother had what looked like a knee injury he had to use crutches.

There was no big highlight plays on offense, there were a ton of dropped balls early that were alarming but the run game made up for the drops. The defense caused probably 8 fumbles reminiscent of last weeks game. We had a blocked punt early in the game too that was returned for a TD so that was a fun new way to get a score this season. The highlight of the night to me was we had a bad snap on an PAT and Swinney picked it up rolled out and threw it to an eligible lineman for 2.

Overall a good game. The early drops were corrected and the rest of the game was smooth sailing. I’m already fired up for Seneca next Friday.

Bhp haven’t solved their offensive woes and play calling is atrocious. They might’ve actually had a chance if they would’ve stayed with the run up the middle against Abbeville. But bhp does what they do. Get in their own way and penalty prone. Abbeville runs a little league offense . Our Dl would kill them. Bhp have zero playmakers on defense . Our wides will have a field day .

Good atmosphere over there though and packed out.

I guess this year in region it’ll be a fight for the 2,3, and 4 seed for the playoffs. Wren lost to Hillcrest who we destroyed in the scrimmage to kickoff the season plus they just don’t know how to beat us now. Seneca hasn’t beat anyone good and they lost to Easley who isn’t a bad team this year in my eyes but we still beat them big. BHP will do enough to beat Pendleton but who knows if they can beat the other two and they’ll end up being the 4 seed. I said last year after BHP lost to Seneca that Blackston had to go and after this year he might be on the hot seat heading into next season.

Sorry that you were offended but it’s just basic knowledge in the way that football across the board is played today.

Daniel ran the veer in the 90s and crushed people with it .
But eventually it got figured out and exposed.

Abbeville is literally running an offense that my little league team played with in the 80s

It works for them on their level in 2A I get it.
But if you ran that offense against top level 3a-5A teams which BHP is not your oline and rbs wouldn’t make it through the year . The pounding week in and week out would decimate your numbers.

Hanna can get away with it to some extent because of their size and depth but when they have run up against a real athletic team with DL that can play. It gets blown up.

Again I respect what Abbeville does on their level. I would do the same if I was their coach but that just wouldn’t work against superior athletic teams in these upper divisions.
