Really? I've heard folks complaining about Christ Church and Southside Christian recruiting as well. So they are in the same discussion. I worked with a guy who is a Chesnee fan and talked all the time that "if we recruited like Christ Church and Southside Christian" we would get in all kinds of trouble.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 4:57 pmMost schools like St Joe’s
Christ church and southside Christian in Greenville are really like private schools where parents pay big tuition for kids to go there.
All three of those schools are maxed out right now because of the lockdowns two years ago. I know personally dozens of families that chose to send their kids there just last year because they weren’t locking down. Those kids at those schools are there for completely different reasons than the schools were talking about. Many not all of those students receive grants and schools to go to these academy’s or schools or what have you. They are openly recruited.
Big difference
What do we do with the Oceanside/Gray etc.

Bishop England used to P guade and pinewood.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 5:29 pmSF Band dad wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 4:31 pmBut they are different than the magnet schools that focus on academics and offer athletics as an extra-curricular activity. These schools are Athletic Magnet schools. I am sure that some parents have enrolled their children at Christ Church or Bishop England due to their athletic programs, but I think those are exceptions. I do not think that is true at Oceanside, Gray and Legion.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 2:12 pmMake them play up one classification
Drawback to this one, schools that are like Academic Magnet, have all they can handle in the lower levels, moving them up would make it even worse on those schools.
But, as a HARD AND FAST RULE, they would have to be linked together. You can't have a rule that says if you go to a private school just to play football....
How do you enforce that rule? All I would have to say is that I wanted my son to get a better quality of education at the smaller private school.
Christ Church is not only private, it is also a school with emphasis on Religion. I could say, I'm Catholic so I wanted my son to go to a Catholic School, or Episcopal, or Presbyterian, or what ever.
That's why this is such a difficult topic. IMG is open about their reasons, some of these other schools are not.
For various sports we lost players to one or two of those schools first Baptist openly recruited our guys before .
Pinewood known for poaching from thr ville and vice versa.
Cathedral probably doesn't .

When was the last time the SCHSL had a "hard, fast rule" about anything? (One that they actually applied evenly?) I'm struggling to understand why the member schools put up with these bozos. .... then I remember, it's all political, they are all gub'ment hacks.
Re: What do we do with the Oceanside/Gray etc.
Christ church might’ve recruited some back when they were having their run but honestly I don’t see that out of those schools that much. I live in the heart of Greenville and know a lot of kids that go there . They have an advantage of attracting families with more money and the ability to provide extra for sure . But recruiting especially from sc and at Joe’s is not really there.

They have all kinds of hard and fast rules.... applied evenly, now that's a totally different question!SF Band dad wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:53 pmWhen was the last time the SCHSL had a "hard, fast rule" about anything? (One that they actually applied evenly?)
If you figure it out, let us all in on the answer!!!!SF Band dad wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:53 pmI'm struggling to understand why the member schools put up with these bozos. .... then I remember, it's all political, they are all gub'ment hacks.

But as "private" schools, they could if they wanted to so they would have to be part of the "private" school rules if they were enacted. Listen, I would say that 99.9995% of the "recruiting" that we all think happens in most of these schools is nothing more than a concerned parent wanting the best for their children. Now I'm not speaking of the Oceanside, Legion, Gray type schools (FYI, had to pause, my favorite TV is on at this very minute: the opening of Sunday Night Football... silver and black and I'm not talking about the Raiders, Faith Hill is WOW!)... now where was I???Ddub14 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:58 pmChrist church might’ve recruited some back when they were having their run but honestly I don’t see that out of those schools that much. Oh, yeah, Southside Christian, Christ Church, and those schools are the ones who would get "punished" if they just made a rule that any PRIVATE schools have to play up in classification. Those are the schools that I do not think are recruiting (but others may think they do).

Christ Church OWNED 1-A until they moved them up and they openly gave star players free tuition to come there...........they won several rings wiith the qb from hillcrest.............make them all move up a classification if they don't have specific school district boundaries for students to come from...........it's the only fair way to do it............Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:19 pmBut as "private" schools, they could if they wanted to so they would have to be part of the "private" school rules if they were enacted. Re: What do we do with the Oceanside/Gray etc.
Agreed...a lot of bigger schools dont have to deal with these types of schools that often..oceanside has played a few bigger schools lately and now gray collegiate is going to Gaffney, but it is almost impossible for the smaller schools to compete with these types of schools..I didnt say all smaller schools as I know there will be a couple of schools that will be able to play with them..abbeville and maybe Saluda year in and year out, but that's about it honestly.spectator wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 9:10 pmChrist Church OWNED 1-A until they moved them up and they openly gave star players free tuition to come there...........they won several rings wiith the qb from hillcrest.............make them all move up a classification if they don't have specific school district boundaries for students to come from...........it's the only fair way to do it............Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:19 pmBut as "private" schools, they could if they wanted to so they would have to be part of the "private" school rules if they were enacted. So with this idea, schools like Academic Magnet will be pushed up a level and will likely end up closing down football....spectator wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 9:10 pmChrist Church OWNED 1-A until they moved them up and they openly gave star players free tuition to come there...........they won several rings wiith the qb from hillcrest.............make them all move up a classification if they don't have specific school district boundaries for students to come from...........it's the only fair way to do it............

if you bill yourself as a sports school, like Legion, IMG, Gray, then play up one classification. Every kid at legion plays sports. Maybe to determine if you are a "sports" school, calculate the percentage of students that play sports. Over a certain number bump up, below a certain number remain
if you are an academic school either play your classification or play scisa
