High school football officials

Post by Itsmeoclock21 »

You abuse them you not going to have them and games will be canceled. They not perfect people and neither are we so let’s support them best we can. Do they make awful calls? Yes. Do they make correct calls? Yes. We need them. Young people are avoiding going into officiating because of the hatred directed at refs. They are good people just like we are.

Paying more would help but there’s not much sympathy here for officials. Watch this thread go dead fast. I doubt it’s worth $200 a game the way some fans react by cursing swearing yelling and all other kinds of threats. I’m glad to see schools cracking down on this at all levels. It needs to stop 🛑.

do they deserve more, probably. But the game is 2 hours and I'm sure they get paid mileage and meal stipend

home team pays the refs. I doubt some schools could afford 200 bucks times 8

Many people don't know the rules. They yell and scream like they do, but they don't. Pass interference isn't an automatic first down at the high school level, but football genius screaming at the ref doesn't know that. The DT that just jumped offsides didn't touch anybody and got back, still doesn't matter. I laugh at some of the football geniuses I hear in the stands.

Don't get me started on the youth coaches who "would do better than the high school staff", but don't understand what makes a player covered and uncovered.

50 cent more a ticket.or have every school pitch into a fund and have refs paid by that fund l8ke a percentage of gate.
It would offset smaller schools .

The best thing anyone here can do is to encourage players to that are done playing that want to continue being part of the game is to become a referee. The lapse is the system getting young guys into the system early.

If every team in the state could get 2 graduating senior football players to enter into becoming a referee, and only half of those held on to work games, the referee dilemma would be worked out in a short time.

Awesome post Itsmeoclock21! I completely agree with you. I admire the job that most Officials/Refs do. Yes, they make some terrible calls sometimes but hey that is part of the game. I wish that more people would go in Officiating. They are really short-handed right now. I think they make pretty good money. I have some people right now trying to get me to become an Official.
