Reminds me of a certain AAAA school in Aiken county that has gone 5-41 over the past 5 years. They have a female AD there and I am not confident in the way they select the football coach. It has been a graveyard for coaches for a long time. They have kids that can play but they still haven't found a coach that has found the right playbook. I remember the year White Knoll came out playing I think it was the wishbone and tore a lot of teams up because they were not prepared to defend it or prepare against it. They won a lot of games until either the coach left or they developed the program enough that they could change to a better offense. You do with what you got!! That's still isn't a guarantee the future is bright because all kids can go to Greenwood High if they parents want them to. I've seen parents on social media talk about the offense. I guess another year would be fair, but not seeing the slightest bit of improvement at Emerald where they always seem to have size and talent.
If anybody in Greenville County cared the slightest bit, about half in the coaches in the county. But they don't. Or maybe it shouldn't be the coaches, but whomever makes the decisions in the county to place as little importance to football as possible.

When the AD told me that, it turned me off to wanting anything to do with coaching there. She told me that the spread was the only way to win in this day and age. Took everything in my power not to bust out laughing at her. This year they got outscored 340-56.Damefan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 9:27 amReminds me of a certain AAAA school in Aiken county that has gone 5-41 over the past 5 years. I know exactly what Aiken looks for in a coach. They actually had some quality applicants last time but chose to ignore them all. Sad part is that Aiken has talent.

They lost to westside early in the year and a couple other losses but they did beat Dorman which doesn’t say much this year but still they haven’t beat them in a few years. I think if they make a deep playoff run he will be fine but what about at Dorman? They were good this year but not the dorman we expect. Again these guys are good coaches but I know those Fanbases can be a little impatient.
I feel strongly that the Dorman game was a win and remain coach game for Coach Shaw. T agree losing Mack Long for the year will also play a role in decision also.
I now would like to think that Coach Gutshall (Dorman) with the lost to a rivalry and Byrnes may have his seat a little warmer

Re: Coaches Hot Seat
When will the changes and openings begin? After playoffs?
Re: Coaches Hot Seat
Anytime. Stall coach just stepped down.
Re: Coaches Hot Seat
No way this Conway decision can be a hard one! JV team was winless, varsity has only beat one team with a .500 or better record in four years. Numbers way down. Stands almost empty. Booster club has to be down 75%! Decision should be done like ripping a band-aid off…..quick!

Once it spreads to the Booster Club that is very telling.... those are the "die hard" of the die hards....Tiger84 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 10:19 amNo way this Conway decision can be a hard one! Losing records get old fast, but a coach losing the team is worse. When the size of the team (by that I mean numbers, weight) is much lower than it should be based on history, that is a very important sign for the administration. When guys don't want to play for a coach, there is a reason. It may or may not be the head coach's fault, but the administration should find out why players are not coming out for football. Historically, Conway has been a good football team... recent history, not so much! There has to be a reason!

Re: Coaches Hot Seat
100% there should be a change in Conway, but will Conway make one? That remains to be seen, I’m not so sure. If you take away the Conway name and use the results of the last four years for “blank team” without knowing it was Conway, you would immediately know that the program is going down hill quickly and not just the Varsity, the whole system. Blank team has a winless JV team in year 4 of coach, that’s just scary. Number of players coming out is down. Booster club support is way down. Four straight losing seasons. Hasn’t won more than 3 games in a season in the last four years. If I was looking at the sample of information regardless of the school, that is problematic and I would say there would need to be a change. Pretty common sense.Tiger84 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 06, 2021 10:19 amNo way this Conway decision can be a hard one!
