Keep in mind, to move up, someone must move down....

So unless someone above them is losing more than they are gaining, no one moves. So who is losing students above them?

I thought that the dorective indicated that Class 5A would conside between 32 and 40 schools depending upon petitions? I am not privy to any numbers outside of our district, but that is a pretty big gap of what they may ultimately decide upon.

Tigger, those Region 6 4A schools like NMB, SF, WF, Aand MB, would be very competitive in Class 5A. In fact, Hartsville could too. They are all pretty much set coaching wise, and talent level as well.

Well, there are already 40 schools in 5A so if those schools that are currently 4A "move up" then some of those already in 5A would have to move down in order for them to move up since they are not making 5A bigger.....

That’s the part we don’t know. Could be status quo. I know NMB has been on a steady upward trajectory but not as fast as St James and Socastee. They will eventually get there IMO. There’s talk of splitting CF soon as they’re close to if not already 3000 students and still growing. That would be two 5A schools with an even split.

BTW you can see the preliminary numbers in the SC Dept of Education website but you have to check each school individual by school district. I’m sure some adjustments will be made due to counting students at vocational and career center type schools. I know Conway has to count students that attend the Academy of Arts and Technology and a few that attend early college.

You are right, for every team moving up, there would have to be one moving down. When those 135 ADM numbers are confirmed, some of those who petitioned up last time, may be forced down because of the numbers. I would think that the SCHSL would rather see equity in acual sze, than equity because of geography, but that is just my opinion. It may require school "A" petioning down as well as school "B" petioning up to create movement.

Others don't need to lose, we could move up if others stay the same. Looking at the previous alignment, adding 75 students each to SF and WF would have put both of them in 5A.

How will they come up with a number? Those students attended Timmonsville this year. I guess if SF and WF are close or just above the 40 cutoff line it won’t matter. Any increase at all probably puts them over.

Like he said, there are already 40 teams in class 5A. That directive said that was their limit at that class, so if SF and WF moved up into that 40, someone would have to drop out, even without losing students. Is that your understanding as well?
