So Dorman will not be hiring someone internally, they will do a search throughout the southeast for the best coach. It will be a good job, maybe add the AD title to the job for higher pay. I remember when Gutshall came, he was a different coach then what he is today. Dorman also changed during that time as well, where you had enough talent in the school to win.
With all that is involved at Dorman, I don't see Head Coach and AD as being a realistic possibility. Too much for one person....
True. Gutshall tried it and our football program suffered for it before he went back to full time coaching.

I have been thinking about this for probably the last ten years. Every time I thought it might be time for him to hand over the reigns he'd get us to the WOC and we'd bring a good game even if we didn't win. For all the nay sayers and chicken littles out there (and there aren't many) who say Gutshall didn't live up to the position, for the last two decades there was a long way to fall as a Dorman fan of a football program without Gutshall at the helm.

Look at Gaffney, Spartanburg, Byrnes....all programs that I did not envy for the last ten years with the coaching uncertainty.

I'm inspired to connect some good dots and write a good post about the Gutshall era.
Was told on Wed, the AD and football coach will remain seperate.

An in-state candidate to perhaps gage the interest of…Mark Barnes over at Sumter. We pay him well over $90,000 and he pretty much just coaches football. No AD title attached. He may be interested in getting closer to the NC area as he gets closer to retirement. Also a proven winner. In the same token, not sure how much longer he would want to coach. I believe he was a candidate for the Broome job a couple years ago. Continues to do an excellent job at Sumter. I would hate to see him go. I do wonder what he would be able to do at a school like Dorman with better facilities, a plethora of athletes, and a good feeder program.

Well, next season the dog will finally catch the car so to speak.

Several fans from around the state for the last ten years have been saying that Gutshall wasn't fully living up to the position and should have had more state titles...etc.

Now we'll see what a "Gutted" Dorman team looks like after more than 25 years. I'm not expecting necessarily to back slide and hoping we do see a fresher more dominant style of football with continued trips to Col and some much needed titles to bring back home.

I'm looking forward to it but with a bit of baited breath. I'm not gonna be a homer if Dorman hooks a world class coach and start thinking we're headed to the top of the mountain. Nor am I one of those fans who demands a "just add water" coach. Realistic expectations it would seem would be that we'll continue to struggle for a couple more years and then hopefully, magic.

Depending on the hire, and what he does to the existing coaching staff, there could be a totally new look....

or the same old same old.

If he brings in a new OC, DC and strength and conditioning coach, then you can look for some major changes which might be good (if it doesn't scare off the players). I've always been a fan of Coach Gutshall but I can understand folks saying they should be a few more trophies in the case, but getting to Columbia is not an easy task, especially since 2000. Gaffney and Byrnes kept them out several times, in the past 20 years. Go back and look at how many times those three have been to Columbia/Clemson since 2000.... I know two years in a row, Dorman and Byrnes met in Columbia and each won the year they were the underdog. I think he's done a very good job and with a couple of breaks, he would have a few more trophies and maybe folks wouldn't be so tough on him. One thing that I believe and will believe until someone shows me proof... He's always done it with integrity!

One name to always throw out for a job opening is Greg Porter. He applies for every job under the sun. Recently he was the runner up for the Greenwood job. Not sure if he will apply because he did get in trouble at Greenville for not telling them he was applying for the Greenwood job. He does have a hard time getting out of Greenville and not sure if he will be able to “Recruit” kids in that area as easily as it is in Greenville ( If he will be able to bend the rules like he did in Greenville) either way his name is always one to bring up in job opening.

Porter does seem to have applied for every decent job in the state. And for some reason he just doesn't get traction. Maybe the recruiting opportunities at some of these schools aren't as fertile as he found at Hillcrest, and now at Greenville. Would imagine he can't resist applying at Dorman. Can't blame him. As a county Greenville doesn't pay like other places that are really interested in winning
