Gray coach and Abbeville radio

Post by MrFootball68 »

Ok, just heard the radio broadcast where the Gray coach accosted the Abbeville radio crew. Whoever that idiot is he needs to be fired. He says this player is from Chapman and this one is from BC, then scolds the radio boys for talking about recruiting and threatens to throw them out the pressbox.

Hey, Idiot Coach, it aint your pressbox. Yall had to borrow one. No one in the Columbia area will let you borrow their field because you openly recruit their kids.

Takes a true DA to get on the visiting radio and sound so stupid.

Now will Romey and his slappys do anything? Naw. Just like the open recruiting they allow.

Where do they play their home games?
A rec field that doesn't have enough seating for postseason hosting.

They've played at Fairfield all post season. We travel over there to play them for upper state Friday night. A much closer drive for us than them

I’m a Chesterfield Ram fan living in Tx and I have the utmost respect for the Abbeville football team, fans and coaching staff. I tuned in to the game Friday night because it was “billed” as the unofficial state 2A championship game, not knowing anything about Gray Collegiate. What I heard and since have discovered is that that school has players from many other teams in the Columbia and surrounding areas. Recruiting? Not sure, but the facts are they have a major advantage in their player base vs. a typical 2A football town of let’s say 5000 people. Nonetheless, Abbeville gave them all they wanted and then some. I personally don’t think that is fair but that’s not what I have chimed in for. The Abbeville football broadcasters were very professional and even praised the GC talent, especially their RB the entire game, only to have a jerk coach enter the booth and show the entire radio world how stupid he is. As a side note, if I had been in that booth, he would have been tossed out headfirst. GUARANTEED!! POS. I hope they fire him and the other jerk that came in the booth later in the 4th quarter. To the Abbeville broadcasters that had to endure that verbal attack, I salute you for keeping your composer. This ex airborne Army officer wouldn’t have been so kind and composed.

This is a problem that Jerome, and his crew at the SCHSL are dragging their feet on getting fixed. You have four, or five, wanna be IMGs across the state that just overtly recruit. And the you have a couple of the more traditional private schools that do the same. Oceanside goes deep in the playoffs. Gray will probably win 2A. Southside Christian doesn't even have any competition in 1A. Now I don't have an issue with schools that just blatantly recruit. That's fine. But put them in their own classification that plays for their own separate state championship. Earlier this year Southside Christian easily handled Greer. Gaffney is playing for upstate in 5A this Friday. But almost got beat by Gray a few weeks back. That tells you something.

Dragging their feet? The SCHSL tried to deal with it but lost in court. Need to make sure the next plan has a solid legal footing.

But I agree with everything else you said.

It's been a problem in South Carolina but now it's creeping into every sport because the Charter/Private have been winning plenty of championships across all sports. It's a advantage they have that no one is addressing either. The incident from Friday night was so uncalled for. I know both broadcasters very well from abbeville their sportsmanship every year is always awesome. I can't for the life why would a coach be listening to a broadcast of another team during the 2nd quarter of a game shouldn't you have other things to be involved in. He must have didn't know how large of a man Benji was is until he opened that door. I bet he was Ah man wrong door.
