Building utilization is a big thing with this rezoning. Don’t quote me on these numbers but they are aiming for around 70% at the high schools. Crestwood and Lakewood are just north of 50% and Sumter is around 75-80%. I believe Sumter would remain comfortably at 5A, but there is a chance Crestwood and Lakewood move up to 4A.
When will Sumter rezone? Unless they already know what they are going to do I suspect this realignment will use this year's ADM numbers, without adjustments.

It should be "leaking" to some source really soon...

WSPA (Spartanburg TV7) published it ten days after the official date last time.

They are aiming to have plans finalized in March and rezoning taking effect next school year. I believe the realignment will use this year’s ADM numbers without adjustments. But I believe adding about 300 students to Crestwood and Lakewood would comfortably make them 4A schools. With that being said, I would have expect there could be appeals to get them moved up next year.

2022-2024 SCHSL Reclassification/Realignment Guide
 https://schsl.org/wp-content/uploads/20 ... elines.pdf
From the linked document:
1. The 5A Classification shall have a base of 36 schools – with flexibility to move plus
or minus 4 schools, thus a range of 32 to 40 schools.
Note: All schools ranging from 33 through 40 shall be considered for
Classification AAAAA

Schools in the plus/minus may be moved up or down to address primary concerns of:
  • 1. Geography and travel
  • 2. Even number of teams in regions - specifically 6 to 8 teams per region
  • 3. For schools in the same district to be considered/maintained in the same regions if possible
Schools in the plus/minus may be moved up or down to address the secondary concern of
  • 1. To avoid hybrid conferences when possible
The bold text just caught my eye. Does this mean they will consider all schools in that range for 5A, regardless of their ADM rank in order to address the primary concerns they list?

For example: Some Pee Dee/Beach schools in the bottom half of the range could be included in 5A to form a more compact, even-sized region while schools in other areas in the top of the range could be pushed down to 4A for the same reasons.

Please note what their primary concerns are. Interesting that fairness and competitiveness are not listed as primary or secondary concerns.

Armchair coaches in the South Carolina High School Sports Group on Facebook. Could have sworn I saw a couple comments on this site, too in other threads....

I think most don’t realize DF counts a lot of students from Spring Hill high. That keeps them at least in the top 20 if not higher.
