If the Rebels defense shows up...they will be tough to beat. That region is going to be rough...not sure how it will play out. Gaffney keeps poor-mouthing about how much they lost...don't believe them fully. Byrnes looks good on paper, just need the defense to self-correct. Spartanburg gets better each week it seems. Dorman is the big question mark. Anywhere from first to forth...have to wait and see. That will be a fun region to watch for sure.

Dutch Fork has a pretty solid non-region schedule with Hough NC, Creekside GA, SFA MD and Spartanburg. See what the Silver Foxes have cooked up for this season. Will be fun. I think Lexington will have another strong year. DF looking for another trip to the title game.

Gaffney loses most of its linebackers and was hit hard on the O line and D line..secondary and receivers should be solid …look for suga Jeffries who caught the game winner in the state game and Quay Tate to see time at TB..both are capable of taking it to the house if the o line does the job…Brayshon Littlejohn is the player to watch..some of you might remember his Dad Bradshaw..Gaffney o line was underrated last season..that’s always the key for Gaffney..dang penalties alone.. :x

Seem’s last year and this year there are different coaching responsibilities ..Rick Scott joins the staff this year as QB coach and that leaves us at the QB position..Kid has grit..last year he did what many pretty decent white QB’s haven’t done since the 70’s at Gaffney…he won that team trust and they went to war for him..

Come that first hint of cool weather …when the women folk break out their new fox fur…the smoke fires of ambush will rise over Title town again..

I sure hope y’all are not playing at Hough..I been on a many of ball fields ..from T ball ymca to Dixie babe Ruth…Rec football to college and that was the most ridiculously lined field I have ever seen…the coach even offered to forfeit when asked about it....it’s dark..and it is dangerous..

I think that game is in Charlotte. Some big opening day thing at Charlotte with DF vs Hough and Myers Park vs Mallard Creek. Not sure how we got invited except Knotts' time at Independence in Charlotte. Most of DF's non-region games are on the road, save St Frances MD. DF handled the NC 4A state champ Cardinal Gibbons last year fairly easily early on and I believe Gaffney thumped Mallard Creek. Hough should be a good game. Gaffney has the toughest schedule in the state looks like. Region alone is murderers row, but throw in non-region against Northwestern, Mallard Creek and Fort Dorchester...rugged.

My top ten for 5A
1. Gaffney - will always put the champs first because they’ve earned it till proven otherwise
2. Dutch Fork- They’re definitely one of the best talented teams in the state no doubt but I have a feeling they won’t make it to the state title game, I just have a gut feeling an upset will happen not sure why but I do.
3. Fort D- don’t know much about them but I hear they’re going to be really talented
4. Spartanburg- they have a lot of talent coming back this year and they have a good coaching staff I see them making a deep run in the playoffs
5. Byrnes? I have a lot of questions about this Byrnes team. They look good so far in 7v7 but they don’t matter unless it translates to this fall. Whether Byrnes faithful wants to admit it or not but they haven’t been as good the last few years as we come to expect from Brynes. They definitely need to win this year or I expect they’ll be looking for a new HC
6. TieTL Hanna- I’ve come to learn we have no clue what TL Hanna team we are going to get. They have a lot of talent and have of the best coaching staffs and off the field stuff that is needed to win in the state. Is this a hanna team that goes to state or a hanna team that makes it to the first or second round of the playoffs?
6. Tie Hillcrest- same with Hanna, not sure what we are going to get out of them. They have a really good QB coming back but not sure about the rest. They’re definitely talented but again not sold on them yet.
8. Summerville- I’m not from the lower state but I hear Summerville looks really good and that they have a good Qb coming back.
9. Carolina Forest- again not from the lower state but I understand they have some playmakers coming back
10. Lexington- they had a good season last year and I expect the same this year

To a previous post about Region 2:

No, Boiling Springs can't be competitive in that region.

We will see how it works out, but was a bit confused about the Dorman hire. Sometimes people fall upward.

And for Shaws sake, Byrnes better be very good. Lots of folks at Byrnes are getting tired of waiting on the Rebels return to elite status.

No excuses for the Rebs this year. The roster is as loaded as in being in many years, definitely the most talent since Shaw has come. The defense will be solid, oline is very good, may have the best backfield in state with plenty of weapons in offense. I think it’s Columbia or bust this year.
 :o

What’s so funny?? I didn’t make any predictions about the season and the statement about best backfield in the state will be true. If the Vikings start slow, you will quietly disappear as you always do.
