Some things I am wondering about as we get closer to football

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

These are in no particular order, just some questions I have about this season:

What will Dorman be like with a new coach for the first time in a long, long time? Two linemen are listed in the ESPN 300, so that looks promising for the Cavs....

Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback?

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play and will that schedule help or hurt?

Daniel lost a lot from last season, but still appear to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating?

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title?

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title?

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year?

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley

There are other questions, especially about my Byrnes Rebels Defense, but these are enough to keep me occupied as I wait for the season to get here.

What will Dorman be like with a new coach for the first time in a long, long time? Two linemen are listed in the ESPN 300, so that looks promising for the Cavs....Cavs will be strong, but so will the rest of region. Coach will need to adjust to the level of competition as well.

Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback?- Byrnes will find a way to score and find the right QB. Might take a couple games but they will be fine.

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play and will that schedule help or hurt?It will help...not sure who has the tougher schedule Gaffney or Spartanburg...both are killer...steel sharpens steel

Daniel lost a lot from last season, but still appear to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating?...Have to see how the Upper State shapes up, but I don't see any real threats

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title? The Vikings play the Silver Foxes early...will see how they stack up. DF defense is back almost to a player, so we shall see. They have two tough tough GA teams, and Mallard Creek as well...will see how they do

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title? ...no idea here, but you will see what Riverside has early as they play Daniel in non-region

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville ...ole Pee Dee fact...never bet against Dirty Myrtle or Hartsville.

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year?...Hanna. They are tough. Would not bet against them.

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley....SV and Bwood always seem to find ball players. Don't count them out.

Both have some stout opponents. Spartanburg has three tough non-region games (Mallard Creek is a scrimmage) and three that should be big wins. Gaffney has 4 tough ones and two that should be big wins. Both teams could have two losses in Non-Region and I would still list them in my TOP TEN Teams!

DF defense gave Spartanburg some problems last season....I am sure both sides will be making adjustments. DF offense will be productive...Knotts knows how to move the ball and has some weapons....couple transfer WRs that should be immediate impact players including an Adidas All-American...a QB that has been under the radar but has all the tools to be special and Jarvis Green back at RB. Should be fun to watch.

So far at the 7 on 7’s Daniel has been doing well on both sides. I’m not worried about the offensive production. We did just lose our starting tackle who is transferring to IMG but the next man up will be ready come week 0. I’m just excited for some scrimmages so I can see how they look in some real action.

Q: What will Dorman be like with a new coach for the first time in a long, long time? Two linemen are listed in the ESPN 300, so that looks promising for the Cavs....
A: I'm looking forward to this new season for several reasons. I got a couple of new buddies who I can count on every Friday to watch Dorman with…
Image

A million thanks to Richard B!

He got me back out to the games again and I had my Great nephews in tow so Mason is now a die hard Cavalier and my flame has been rekindled.

No expectations means less disappointment. Hoping for at least a .500 record but even still, every game will be another miracle for me after making it through Hell and back the last 4 years. I've lost more in the last 4 years and suffered more grief than at any other time in my whole life. Lost the best friend a person could ever hope to have known, lost a little brother, lost a 15-year job, and just lost my dad. Also dealt with losing a significant amount of my innocence.

On the bright side, I've got a shining new start. A new career that promises to bring more security than my old career ever could have. A slew of new friends from all over the globe. The new season will see my 21st anniversary with my practice wife, and maybe even a daughter-in-law. I finally feel in the pocket with God and Christ for the first time in my life in a way that feels authentic, sincere, personal, and fully integrated. And wouldn't ya know it? None of the churches visited throughout my life (15 or more) or preachers or tweet-sized prayers texted to me by well-meaning friends had anything to do with it. Just had to be patient and wait.

I feel like life makes more sense now than it ever has and promises to just get better and better. I think it's my game to lose at this point.I watched We Are Marshall again a few nights ago and it affirmed what I've pretty much always felt was an unshakable belief. For me, it really IS how you play the game, win or lose. Loss is an inevitability. Isn't something you can always control. But you can always control how you play the game.

One chapter closes, and another one opens. Just give me some excitement next season. Doesn't have to be spectacular. Honestly, I just hope we don't end up on a merry-go-round of coaches like some other teams have had to suffer through.

In any case, I'd rather tank in region 2 5A than in any other region. A new coach for the Bulldogs might be interesting to follow.

Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches, and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback? Agree with Dfold, Byrnes is always competitive. No idea about the roster but they'll be fine.

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play, and will that schedule help or hurt?
I've always believed a creampuff non-region schedule does a team no favors. Not to be pedantic, but I did some research on the notion that iron sharpens iron. Turns out in the literal sense not to be so true though one can probably make the point that iron can temper iron.

Daniel lost a lot from last season but still appears to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating?
No idea there.

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title?
I think a title for the Vikes will come down to how the playoff tree shakes out but I wouldn't be too surprised if they win it all. One thing is for certain...SpartanburgViking95 will be irrepressible if they pick up a title but a happy Richard is a delightful person to be around. I'll definitely catch at least one Vikes game in their new stadium on the home side.

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title?
No idea.

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville

Ehhh...I'll be a homer and stay in the good graces with Ruben and say it's SF's year!

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year?
Everyone knows Mauldin is always a bit scrappy but the loss to TL Hanna still smarts.

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley

Yawn. I'm pulling for the Bearcats probably for nostalgiac reasons. Absolutely bummed that the Trojans are 4A.

There are other questions, especially about my Byrnes Rebels Defense, but these are enough to keep me occupied as I wait for the season to get here.

What is the weakest 5A region next season?

Not sure about Dorman. The coaching hire was a surprise as he inherited a loaded deck at Flora and saw shades of being unprepared in critical game.management decisions in their loss to Greenville last year. In the region Dorman is in, can't have that kind of stuff. But maybe he will be great
.we will see.

Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback?

A lot of pressure on Brynes. And they better be good. After years where even winning state kind-of got old in Duncan, the natives are restless to get back to the elite of SC football.

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play and will that schedule help or hurt?

Tough schedule, and Gaffney may lose a couple. Lost a lot to graduation, but they always seem to. But then they always seem to have somebody else coming to take their place that is just as good. Gaffney will again be a threat to play for it all.

Daniel lost a lot from last season, but still appear to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating?

I don't see anyone in the upstate, or.lower state for that matter, that can threaten Daniel

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title?

They will certainly be in the mix of the best teams in the upstate. But they won't surprise anyone this year. Byrnes lost their best running back last year. And Dorman proved they weren't nearly as good as everyone thought as the year played out. And everybody thought they could do something with Gaffney in the playoffs. But Gaffney showed them what really speed was and the game wasn't close. Hodge is as good as they come, but don't think it is their turn to get to Columbia just yet

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title?

Riverside was lucky to have the front end of their schedule stocked with even worse football teams out of the always underwhelming efforts of most Greenville County schools. Riverside might win Moreno those powder puffs, but cannot beat anyone of relevance

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville

Be interesting.

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year?

Be a toss up between Hillcrest and Hanna.

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley

I'd say Clover or SV. Not exactly the toughest 5A region

There are other questions, especially about my Byrnes Rebels Defense, but these are enough to keep me occupied as I wait for the season to get here.

This is best OL in the state and think it will be key to Dorman success!
Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback?
Mack Long will be the go to guy! I would not give him many carries in non-region games! Would keep him healthy and fresh for region! watching the 7 on 7 's The Bomar kid have mainly been playing wr/db and he is a freakish athlete! Cobly Shaw have looked pretty good at QB this summer ! But just having the Bomar kid and Mack Long in the same back field could be unstoppable (JMO)

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play and will that schedule help or hurt?
Gaffney may have one loss tops ! Unless injuries occur it will help them!

Daniel lost a lot from last season, but still appear to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating? Seen Chester , Clinton, this summer and they have some good looking talent!

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title? I'm sorry , but I'm not drinking the Blue and Gold Kool-Aid just yet! They got a really good playoff bracket last year and peaked at the right time! Their schedule will let us know early!

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title? Great move for both them and Wade Hampton ! They will be competitive but will not beat the better 4A teams!

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville? Just guessing MB here!

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year? Hillcrest have some good talent! TL is tuff just because of brand of football they play! Dark Horse will be JL Mann , seen them also this summer and they have some talent that can help them in that region and county !

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley Going to go with Spring Valley Here!

There are other questions, especially about my Byrnes Rebels Defense, but these are enough to keep me occupied as I wait for the season to get here. Secondary have looked outstanding in 7on 7 and with Dingle and 4 DL returning from last year I think the defense is going to be very good

Going to be interest year for the Cavs. They have a good punch at running back behind a pretty good OL. Interested in seeing how Tally steps up at Qb this year taking all of the snaps at QB and not splitting series. With guys like D1 offered players Will White and DJ Porter in the secondary they'll be really good.

Byrnes has a lot of talent at running back, can you get them all enough touches and who will be taking the snap at Quarterback?

Long and Cook is arguably the best running duo in the state. This summer majority of the snaps were taking by Shaw which I think Bomar has been allowed rest from QB due to injury. I think Byrnes fans want to know if they can replace the two WRs that graduated last season. Pringle leads the defense which will also be good with Weaver and Cook at DB. There DL is young but should be strong.

With the schedule the Indians face, how many losses will they have when they begin Region play and will that schedule help or hurt?
Gaffney does start the season with an interesting schedule. The Indians have several spots that need to be replaced one is not at QB with Loftis returning at the helm. Jefferies will more than likely play every skill position on offense and possible special teams. Defensively with that staff they have I expect them to hold strong as they did last season.

Daniel lost a lot from last season, but still appear to be odds on favorites to represent the Upper State again. Is there anyone who can keep them from repeating?
The is probably the best question asked. Daniel is strong and has the community behind the program. I saw Chester this summer and they looks pretty sharp. Chapman will probably be dangerous this season. Although Daniel beat them handily in the playoffs I would count out Clinton because they're built something special. There are also teams like Woodruff, Lower Richardland, and Broome to watch out for. If I had to pick right now I say I like Chester in the upper state out of 3A.

Spartanburg appears to be loaded, but so does everyone else in Region II 5A (with the possible exception of Boiling Springs). Is this the year the Vikings get another shot at a State Title?
Vikings do return a lot of talent both sides of the ball. Rahiem Jeter in his final season has plenty of talent to showcase what he can do. I hear they have a pretty good Freshman RB along with their 3 year starting RB. Lost #20 at LB but they should be still really good at that position. The DL is pretty good as well. I think the Vikings are a top 3 team in the state with a bruising schedule. I can probably say they Vikings have the least amount of holes to fill on the team.

Coach Reel is building something special in Boiling Springs it would not surprise me if they upset a team in this region this season.

Riverside looked really good to start last season playing 3A and 4A teams, now that they are in 4A, will they have a chance to knock off Greer and Laurens and win a Region Title? Riverside has been out matched for years in the region and classification they've been in. I think they are finally in a situation that they can compete and win football games.

In Region 6 4A, who will win the SCHSL's version of SURVIVAL?
North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Wilson, South Florence, West Florence, Hartsville

Hands down toughest region in the league.

In Region 1 5A, what will T L Hanna be like this year? Will Hillcrest repeat as Region Champs or maybe is this Mauldin's year?

Hillcrest was young last season. I expect them to win it again.

Now with Northwestern moving down to 4A, who will win Region 3 5A?
Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Blythewood or Spring Valley

Brain Lane is a good coach his system should be firmly in place now. I would say Clover wins this region with Spring Valley next in line. Nation Ford could surprise some teams they have a really good QB and Offense.

There are other questions, especially about my Byrnes Rebels Defense, but these are enough to keep me occupied as I wait for the season to get here.

I was told that Byrnes played a lot of kids both ways this Summer. Going to be interesting if they bring that into the season in the region that they're in.

Boiling Springs... If they can get a nice push out of their OL I expect them to have a top Back Field with the two RBs they have returning.
