The biggest surprise of the evening was not on the field, it was in the home stands. I've been attending SF football games for 14 years and we had more people in attendance last night than we have had at some of our regular season games over that period. Granted, there was no cost for admission and having a stadium at the school makes a difference, but the size of the crowd was impressive. The students, parents and fans sense that this SF team has the potential for a great year.
We looked pretty good considering it's the first week of August. There were some mistakes and rough edges but nothing that can't be "coached up" in the next couple of weeks. There's lots of talent and I think the coaching staff's emphasis on strength & conditioning, hard work and character will pay off.
In the first half of the scrimmage both teams got the ball for about 10 downs and then they would switch. A normal 4-down format was used in the 2nd half and included special teams play. (No kick off or punt returns, no rush on punts and FGs.)
Both teams were rotating a lot of different players in and out, so I don't want to put too much in the score. But since I know y'all will ask, I think SF scored twice in the first half, CB once. In the second half I think it was SF 14-7. (The scoreboard wasn't running and I was catching up with old friends, I may have missed one or two scores.)

The booster club is calling it 35-14 so I did lose track of one of our touchdowns. Since there were no extra points in the first half I would score it 33-13. Next up, Sumter.

Sumter is tough. They always seem to have some studs. Good scrimmage for FD.Fortfor5 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 5:26 amWe scrimmaged Sumter. Well, what do you expect in the first week of August? Butter pecan, caramel, candy sprinkles...?
