In certain places where football matters there surely can be one. See Brian Lane at Byrnes as an example. Some places, Greenville County comes to mind, there never seems to be any pressure. I think Greer and Greenville demand good football, but that's about it.

Emerald and 96 are just a few miles apart but have the same issue. Both schools have shown that they have what it takes to be a consistent, solid contender but politics and cliques have controlled the programs until they have been run into the ground. Owings at 96 never will win and he knows it. He has loaded the schedule this year with losers, playing Mid Carolina twice in back to back weeks, who only had 2 wins last year. But when your daddy is the dentist i guess the the kids don't matter. Emerald has the same issue, a coach hired because of cronyism. When will people finally stand up for their kids and force these schools to put the kids first? Both Emerald and 96 have had the opportunity to hire excellent coaches but chose the "buddy route" instead at the expense of the kids. It's really sad. I just sit at the Emerald games and cringe these days.

Dubose had a lot of success at Abbeville, so not sure it was really cronyism that got him the Emerald job.

His entire staff was built upon cronyism and nepotism though.

The staff is a solid group of good men. I really believe that. I don’t think a single one of them knows how to connect with the kind of kids roaming the halls (and the streets) over there. You can’t win there thumping the Bible and be corny as can be. Those kids will see right through it.

Their sports programs, mainly football and basketball, will suffer greatly due to the coach’s inability to relate to their players.

I,honestly don't see how football can get any worse at Emerald than last year. I am not deeply involved but i am told that they had the right guy on staff who coached at McCormick and did real well but they let him get away.

I’m assuming you’re talking about Brian Neal. Not surprised he left. Mac and Dubose were always looking over their shoulder when he was there.

To be quite honest, they’ve lost a lot of great assistants over the years. Two of the younger ones that coached there ended up at the college level and Emerald fell on tough times when they left. Coincidence? Probably not.

Why don't 5 of this board's best football minds form a coalition and offer to replace the worst coach in SC for a season. Or at least counsel him. This talk of coaches that haven't had a win in two years. It makes me think surely one of us could do that job? How much worse could it get?
