The Woodruff Wolverines travel to Chapman this Friday for the season opener for both teams. I think this could be a competitive game but Woodruff, I believe, has the upper hand this season. The Wolverines have looked very solid in the preseason and have a very good team across the board with 16 starters returning and a big defensive lineman transferring in from Dorman.
Chapman, conversely, is replacing TEN offensive starters. In no way am I saying the players that are taking over are not talented and that Chapman won't be a very good team later in the season, but you don't replace that many starters on offense, especially ones of the caliber they lost at QB and the skill positions, and be as good as you were. Defensively I think Chapman will be improved with much more experience returning on that side of the ball.
Chapman will be back in 2023, but I see this season as a transition year for the Panthers. Here's to a great game on Friday!
My predicition:
Woodruff 38
Chapman 28

How has Chapman faired since losing their coach?

I'm not sure Chapman is still the killer team they were when Hodge was there, but still very good. And Chapman has to be the luckiest team in the state. When they shift regions around Chapman always seems to land in a new region with a home field advantage in the playoffs, and this year into maybe the weakest region in 3 A. But Woodruff beating them? No. Woodruff is Woodruff. Pretty good. Will get in the playoffs, and maybe win a game. But not going to beat anyone of relevance

This sounds like it might be a good matchup Friday night.

But the fact you consider a Chapman team who graduated TEN offensive starters and is literally replacing EVERYONE on that side of the ball better than a Woodruff team returning 16 starters, most of their WR production, and a three-year starter at QB is a bit of a stretch to me. We will see come Friday, I suppose.

Although it’s true that Chapman lost a lot, it’s also true that they have owned woodruff for awhile. I think the game will be competitive but until the wolverines actually do it......

What is the recent record between the schools?
Ddub makes a good point. No one ever brings up the Boiling Springs roster for a good reason. It would seem it’s irrelevant.
Still, I’d hesitate to give Woodruff a zero chance of beating anyone.
This is a game I’ll be following Friday night.

So to answer Decav’s question
2017 Chapman 48-14
18 Chapman 42-31
19 Chapman 49-35 and then in the playoffs 49-0
20 Chapman 45-14
21 Chapman 54-35
Again could Woodruff win yes
But the overwhelming notion that this is in the bag for woodruff is a little too out there.

Chapman owns Woodruff until they can prove otherwise. I got the Panthers in this one.
