Spartanburg left a lot points out there last night. Three missed field goals and a blown opportunity to put points on the board before halftime kept the game close. Byrnes played with a lot of energy and did not give up. #1 is a great player but he lacks in discipline. He played well on both sides of the ball. Spartanburg was missing a few starters, hopefully they'll be back next week against Gaffney.

#1 is only a sophomore that is playing with a lot of frustration and built in anger! For two years in a row he has not been given a fair opportunity to play the QB position because of things he can't control ! This is a once in a generation talent that we have here in SC! All we asking at Byrnes is go to a two QB system at this point if Shaw wants to play his son!

if you trying to run air raid offense you must have right trigger man!

I attended the game last night. From the talent prospective last night I felt that Spartanburg had the edge.

QB - Spartanburg - Made the big throws and plays. Picked up positive ground yards.
RB - Spartanburg - They has a really good 1/2 push with #2 and #20. #21 for Byrnes was a dude (hope it he healthy and recovered)
WR - Spartanburg- Felt like this WR core made the bigger players. Too many Byrnes drops by the wideouts
OL - Byrnes - Gave the QB time to drop back a good part of the night. Was physical on goal line plays.
DL - Spartanburg - #90 was a dude.
LB - Should have been a tie but I go Spartanburg based on pick 6 and Byrnes has a drop INT.
DB - Byrnes - Good size awareness and closing speed. Spartanburg had a great rotation of DBs as well too many penalties however.
ST- Tie Both had really good kick returners #20(SHS) #11 (BHS) and both teams had bundlers on Special teams.

Congrats to the Vikes ! I have nothing but the up most respect for Coach Hodge and the way he runs his programs!

I have been a fan of Byrnes High for over decades , THE UGLY, THE UGLIER THE,BAD, THE OKAY , THE GOOD, THE BETTER, THE BEST , so no poster going to tell me s*** about this program!

This year roster top to bottom has as much talent other than the 08-09 teams we have had here! Even with the lost of Mack Long we should still be just a complete juggernaut on offense!

Now the question is what is the reason for inconsistent play or lack of production ? TRUE BYRNES FANS know the answer.
It sure seemed like your QB was throwing a LOT of uncatchable balls last night. Was that my imagination?

Best post I seen in a while agree with each point!

QB: Not even close ..think everyone in state knows what's gong on here at Byrnes.. Karma is a *****( Jeter) should be winning you games instead of beating you!

RB: Losing Mack Long for the year has hurt this offense in a big way! Still have a great stable of RBs but nothing close to a Mack Long

WR: Maybe biggest disappointment , the drops have been going on for the past serval years, just too much talent to not get any production!
OL: is better and think if we can take anything positive it's that!

DL: Our size hurts us at times ,but overall we have good speed , really think the Dorman game going to be a longgggggggg night!

LB: Well , losing maybe best LB in the state in Dingle have hurt this group
DB: Well ,this group is made up of 2 power 5 sophomore corners 2 juniors safeties , this is going to be a special unit!
ST: Byrnes have weapons to make plays , kicking game questionable

I'm kind of shocked that neither of you mentioned Byrnes' red zone defense and goal-line package. I haven't seen a defense prevent so many points that should have been in the basket.

I saw a very concerning problem on special teams for the Vikes. The kicker. He missed too many gimmies up close and what the heck was the deal with the Vike's kickoffs all night???

Just little pooch kicks all night that gave the Rebs starting position at their 40 at least or better all game long. Finally in the 4th quarter the Vikes booted one at the endzone and gave the Rebs their worst starting position all night long.

I'll say last night's game bodes well for the Cavs against the Rebs although after watching their goal-line defense, I'd say we'll need to score from outside the 20 as much as possible. I was very impressed the Byrnes defense in the red zone. Very impressed.

Also impressed with the Byrnes DL against the run. Between the tackles last night, it just seemed pointless for the Vikes to run the ball eventually. I'm hoping our o-line is better than Spartanburg's but Dorman is still a question mark for me this year. We're undefeated but our opponent's win/loss numbers are basically a wash. Better than Byrnes but not by much. Clearly, Dorman has made a solid transition at the coaching position. My only hope for the new staff was a winning record in their first year. That looks to be just about wrapped up.

I'll give the fans for both sides a thumbs down last night. Byrnes didn't travel well at all and the Spartanburg fans were basically asleep as near as I could tell. Neither side made much noise at all that I could hear. Me and 95 on a couple of big defensive plays tried to get a defense chant going and no one was having any of it. Maybe they were cold but I was wearing a short sleeve shirt all night.

I was told #1 is the same player who transferred from Dorman. If that's true he gave the Vikings defense fits last year. If he's a sophomore and want to play the QB position, i'm sure the Vikings would welcome him with open arms just like they did Jeter. Jeter is a senior this year so he may get his wish. ;)

This is correct. Was used in a dual QB plan. Was called up when we needed a QB that was mobile and could run. Obviously he wanted the ball more often. I suspect he'll be your starter next season. Wasn't Jeter at Byrnes?

Not sure why everyone has to dance around the subject that the Byrnes QB is the coach's son. It wasn't controversial when Bentley was there.

When Chase and Shuler were at Byrnes, they would have been the starting QB no matter who their daddy was!

First off, and most importantly, let me say this: I personally don't know if the back up QB should be the starter or not, I don't see them every day at practice to compare them side by side. Now, I do see them on the field on Friday (and this past week on Thursday) and I do believe that there have been times when the back up should have been brought in if nothing else to see if there is a spark or just to motivate the starter to get it together!
