Seeking Championships Doesn't Matter that Much Anymore

Post by greenjewel »

Our society is in free fall, we no longer embrace anything worthwhile. It wasn't that long ago that playing varsity sports of any kind revolved around one thing: success. With the goal of being the champion. EVERYBODY wanted to be the best.
Now days as a society we have gotten so sorry that its no longer about playing the game at your best and playing fair. Now its all about the fun part, just have fun, no expectations attached and what you get a complete collapse of the system.
You get games that people can't go to because it isn't safe to go. You drive to games where everything from the coaching to the water boy is done 3rd class, its a celebration of low accomplishment and low expectations.
I have a "cut the head off of the snake" idea. Lets outlaw booster clubs and if any athletic program needs anything let's just set up a "go fund me" page and raise the money. Guess what, some schools are doing just that, in fact there is a special website now for it.
I think if we can get the mamas off of the field, demand success from the coaches, and let the coaches run their own show, we can accomplish much more for our boys. Now that we have the internet, we don't need booster clubs anymore; we can raise any money we need easily. What say you? What good are they?

A go fund me would have provided the same money.

Some schools, that works just fine. Especially winning programs, or especially one school towns. Others, not so much.

...and then there are the 1/2 school towns, like Timmonsville and 96. T'ville was closed and merged with the Florence schools, how long before 96 is closed?
