Upset predictions for Week 2

Post by bruindad79 »

Well, since I thoroughly suck at making upset predictions, I thought I'd have some fun and throw out my upset predictions for week 2.

Div 1, my upset of the week is... Drum roll please... Sumter over Hillcrest

Div 2, my upset of the week is... Drum roll please... South Pointe over Goose Creek

In no way do I mean any disrespect to any of the teams mentioned, I just thought I'd throw this out there to get some conversations started on the board.

Good luck to all teams this week, I pray for safe travels and safe play for ALL players this week and beyond!

:D

I, too, suck at picking games

I will make only 1 upset pick for this weekend:
Boiling Springs over Summerville

Lexington beat North Augusta in the Jacket's Nest, holding them to 14 pts. Lexington's defense is much improved and has gotten better as the season progressed. I don't think Byrnes is going to walk over Lexington. Byrnes better score early and often because I don't think Byrnes wants to get into a dog fight with Lexington. Their losses do come from top ranked 4A D1 schools. I believe Byrnes will win, but they better remember Blythewood from two years ago...that halftime score was 3-0 and had Rebel fans sweating. Like Blythewood, Lexington has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Okay. I would agree that a Byrnes or Northwestern loss in this round would be a H U G E upset. South Pointe defeating Goose Creek would be an upset, but not to the extent of a Lexington or York victory.

I just don't think Lexington's offense has the firepower to match Byrnes's offense. Byrnes's defense only needs to make about 3 more stops than Lexington's defense for the Byrnes's offense to put the game out of reach. I don't see Lexington being capable of matching Byrnes td for td.

That being said, maybe one of these games, the penalties on Byrnes may be something that they cannot overcome. Who knows? Byrnes's defense is giving up a lot of points, but is Lexington capable of making the needed and necessary defensive stops to win? Maybe, but I don't think so.

I'm sure you're right. After all, we are talking about Byrnes. Lexington just seems to be lucky every week.

Lexington will play man underneath with two high safeties. When they played NA they were very good in man coverage on the quick stuff (slants or quick outs), they force you to throw in tight windows. NA beat them deep a couple of times with combination routes where they were able to force the high safety to commit to a receiver. Couldn't understand why we didn't do more of that.

They are exploitable with the run game due to the two-deep safety approach against passing teams but when you get into the red zone they bring their safeties into the box and the yards get tougher. NA probably rushed for well over 200 yards but couldn't turn those yards into points. You really need a power run game which NA doesn't possess. They are very disciplined and play their assignments very well

Offensively they are not as explosive as Byrnes and expect the Rebels to come away with the victory for that reason. But if Byrnes turns the ball over or just aren't on their game there is the chance Lexington can pull the upset.
