Maybe Never Again, But This One Is Ours!

BEF and I have been waiting our entire lives to be able to call our beloved Eagles, State Champions! Through some of the absolute worst seasons in SCHSL history, to some of the most heart wrenching close calls. From meeting William Perry in Aiken one bitter cold night, to playing Dee Feaster and Northwestern on a Saturday afternoon in Rock Hill. We have sat with his dad through many all-day Championship weekends in Columbia. Met countless other great football fans all over this State. I, actually never dreamed that I would live long enough to see Beaufort High raising the Trophy.

I think of some of the great Beaufort High Alumni, former teachers, administrators, coaches, and fans, who have passed and weren't as fortunate as we have become. This Championship will be the crown jewel for me. I have watched my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers win more Super Bowls than any other team in history. I have seen Dean Smith and Roy Williams coach the best College Basketball teams to ever lace up the sneakers. Got to see Earl Weaver Manage the only MLB Baseball team in history to have four 20 game winners in one season. All of my favorite teams have had their runs as the best in the world.

But all of that is second fiddle to being able to be there when my Alma Mater won a State Championship in Football. Especially after all of dilution of talent because of political involvement. The creation of 2 new High Schools in Northern Beaufort County. Neither of which have proven necessary. With no Industry here, the population has never exploded like it has in other Districts across the State. When I think of what could have been, had politicians not interjected themselves into the equation.

For at least one season now, none of that will matter. The Beaufort High Eagles are State Champions in Football. I will stand a little taller now. My smile will be a little wider. From this point moving forward, Beaufort High will now be recognized as a formidable force. And for two of the most dedicated Football Fans in this State, we are truly NUMBER 1 and nobody will ever be able to take that away from us!

Awesome Post, Penguin!!!! I still can't believe that we saw our Beaufort Eagles Football Team win a State Title finally!!!! I am still so, so, Happy. I love this picture!!!! Hopefully, we can see them win another State Title one day. But I will enjoy this one as long as I can.
