I saw this as a good article on the good and bad that WILL HAPPEN with recruiting in the coming cycle. Schools will possibly not recruit as many high school kids now with kids hitting the transfer portal now that they have been granted an extra year of eligibility. The NCAA has not extended the 85 number for scholarships best I can tell from all my readings so schools will want to wait and see who they WANT TO KEEP and WHO WANTS TO TRANSFER first before commiting to high school kids. Give me your thoughts...

College Football Recruiting
Re: College Football Recruiting
From what I gather from that article, schools will have an overall, better roster with regards to talent. That does not necessarily translate to better chemistry, nor a better product on the field. A lot of kids are going to lose the opportunity to be on a roster. Those are the ones most likely to only be college players, and not possess the talent to play professionally. However, not given the opportunity to play, a Wes Welker kind of guy may fall through the cracks. Perhaps some FCS schools can step up and give some of these guys the chance to play. Another fallout of this will be the overall reduction of applicants at these schools. Non athletes may also be affected. Just an overall bad situation. Just my thoughts.

Re: College Football Recruiting
could schools take away existing scholarships to make room for transfers?
I don't think they should but in these times who knows. Maybe increase the number of players that can be on scholarship

Dabo Sweeney's response today:
Dabo said as he understands it, you can bring back players for an extra year of eligibility, but they'll count toward 85.
"So that could mean for '22 class, you don't sign many people. There will be some challenges."

Re: College Football Recruiting
But that could mean a banner crop for some of the schools that usually don't get the 4 and 3 star guys. A guy who signs at Clemson and never sees the field could end up at Wake and be an all conference player because instead of playing behind two 5 star guys; he gets on the field and gets noticed. I like the possibilities. I've always said that 85 is still too high of a number, and 75 is enough. Take some of the talent on the bench and let them go to other schools to balance things out more.
Normally, no one wants to watch Duke -vs- Vanderbilt unless they have ties to one of the schools; however, if they had a few more good players, the game could be a better matchup.

I'm thinking about entering the transfer portal!

Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star tackle Josiah Thompson, a top-50 national prospect in the 2024 class, will return to campus for the Tigers’ elite junior day Jan. 28.
Thompson announced his top six schools earlier this week, including Clemson on the list along with Alabama, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina and Tennessee.
“I really (would) love to play for Clemson,” he said. “Clemson is a school I (would) most definitely be able to fit in and become great.”
Thompson is ranked as high as the No. 43 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports, which considers him the No. 2 offensive tackle nationally and the top prospect in the Palmetto State regardless of position.

A novel idea would be stringent academic requirements on transfers before becoming eligible..
