From what I heard, interviews started this week. District admin and School board are heavily involved. 2nd round of interviews coming up include Woolbright, Herron and one other - tight lips on the 3rd candidate. No idea who that is just said he is good. Also heard Devonte Holloman applied. Devonte got a raw deal at South Pointe in my humble opinion.

I think Clover has alot to offer. Love covering games over there. Great stadium and press box. The place is packed on Friday night regardless of win/loss record. School administration is very good to work with. Very accomodating.........

It will be interesting to see the impact of the 2nd Clover high school coming online in what- 2 to 3 years.......
Wow...Holloman applied? How did Devonte Holloman get a raw deal at South Pointe? I thought that he wanted to leave there if he got a job at USC?

GO BEAUFORT EAGLES!!!!
Beaufort Head Football Coach Bryce Lybrand is 43-26 after his 6th Season at Beaufort
2022 3A State Football Champions
3 State Titles in Football
I have attended 636 Beaufort Football Games
GO BEAUFORT EAGLES!!!!

3rd Candidate is probably somebody from one of the Fort Mill schools since both the AD and the principal have ties there. Holloman did get a raw deal at South Pointe but I am sure it will come down to Woolbright or Herron because both have ties to Clover. It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the next few weeks as I am sure they will have somebody in place by the first to middle of next month.
I guess the only coach from Fort Mill would be the guy at Catawba Ridge. Can’t see them hiring from Fort Mill of Nations Ford. Nations Ford is average on its best day. Fort Mill is a disaster. Not sure it is the coaches fault, but it is a mess.

What about a coach from Indian Land? Are they like the red headed step child of the Fort Mill area? Don't know much about them other than past experiences with their wrestling fans. They were total nut jobs.

word around the 29710 is that they are down to 2 candidates and will be making a choice to get the approval at the Board meeting on Monday. I don't know which two candidates but they are down to two of them. One would have to think that it is between Woolbright and Herron but who knows with this group! It is the same school district that has tried to push the homeless man being locked in the middle school overnight under the rug!

What does Clover pay. Woolbright makes six figures at Lexington. And from what I understand has a son that is a rising senior. Family loves living on the lake there. I know he has family connections to the area, but find it odd he would take things this far unless he knows Lexington is about to hit a dry spot talent wise. Though I am sure he never sees a path to a region title and and favorable seed in the playoffs for a deep run as long as Knotts is at Dutch Fork. But I still figure Herron has the edge. Experience, and very successful in the area. And with his connections in the area so could see him attracting some talent from Rock Hill schools except maybe Northwestern

bigeagle9797 - From what I heard today, you are corrert on the final 2. In my opinion, that is going to be a tough decision for the Clover School Board. I don't know Coach Woolbright; but, I do know Coach Herron. I think Strait would do an incredicble job at Clover. Obviously, the make up of that Region may change after this year with reallignment; however, Strait is a defensive minded coach. Offense wins games- defense wins championships. Why do you think Blythewood won the region this year - Defense!!! In no way is that statement a "negative" toward the previous coaching staff. I just have watched Strait for the last 20 years and he knows how to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Blister - From what I understand, the pay range has increased. $105K to $108K for the position. I think Coach Lane made $97K. He goat one heck of an increase to go to Westside.

Fan4awhile - As it relates to Coach Holloman, lets just say he faced "challanges" that he should not have had to deal with. Rmember, RHSD 3 "reassigned" the SP principal in July of 2021. No public explanation was given. There was also a new - very young AD that was hired too. He came from the middle school ranks. I guess there is nothing wrong with that - BUT, you would have thought they would have hired someone from the high school ranks with experience - at least when you school competes at the 4A leverl. I think he lasted maybe 18 months. Then, they hire a principal from Charlotte - again, why not hire someone from within the district. It is my understanding that he did do what he was suppose to as it relates to the teaching certification. I was told he did complete the necessary steps; however, the final test was on the day of the state championship game and he missed it. Again, from what I was told, they were not going to make an exception and he was going to have to start all over. I cannot verify that last point; however, I don't really question the individual who shared that info with me. He has been right more often than not.

So few things w Holloman that you stated, 1st Principal, have heard there were valid reasons, all I can say. And let's face it Al Leonard is a very hard follow! That dude was a special educator in any setting. Young AD, very valid. Pace program w praxis on day of state championship is a very hard reach. Not a hard thing to schedule and it's not a 3 yr process, it's you have 3 years to complete......and there are even easier programs now to become certified.
I am like you, don't know Woolbright, Dad was solid coach, Strait has only won with superior athletes, so will be interesting to see how he does.... if defense wins they should hire current Clover DC, Clover has been really good on defense imo
Appreciate the info, not saying I'm right just adding

Fan4awhile....

Your are spot on regarding Dr. Leonard. He is the real deal - well respected. You can't say enough good things about him.

There were alot of crazy comments/rumors floating around today about the search. Have you heard anything? I can tell you that people from the lowcountry to the midlands are watching this search/process closely.....I'm talking coaches at other schools specifically!!

Yeah I can see why there is big interest, great job as far as pay, facilities, community support .........Think the question is long term w/ new HS being built. But no I don't know any more than anybody, just opinion, however I did see Clover at least 2x a year the last few years and Defense always looked good. DC may not want job, I have no idea

I don't think anybody else is in the running now except the final two candidates of Woolbright and Herron. We will see what happens in the next few days as I am hearing the announcement could come as soon as Monday, if everything lines up.
