Thinking this might be a hot seat year for Tad. Lost a lot of solid skill players and not much waiting around to fill in the gaps.

Tad Dubose will be at Emerald as long as he wants to be! There will never be a Hot seat. If there is ever a Life lesson I learned it is "It is not the Grades you make, but the hands you shake that make the difference!" But I think Tad did a good job this year at Emerald. 5-6 Heck is that not what Greenwood did? He is a good coach, and no way that seat will ever Heat up!

I would have to agree. Emerald is the dream job, you get all the resources Greenwood gets and half the expectations. As long as Tad doesn't do anything dumb off the field he will be there for as long as he wants. Not sure how Old he is or close to retirement, He's had the posistion for over three years so it's raised his retirement check so I guess the rest is gravyDawgBulleyes wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 2:42 pmTad Dubose will be at Emerald as long as he wants to be! Tad is not going to get fired unless he does something stupid . Which I doubt will happen
Re: Tad Dubose hired as Emerald's Head Coach
At this point I am not sure it matters who the coach is at Emerald. Not sure what the problem is down there. They have had a few teams in recent years that had as much athletic talent as anybody in 3A. And massive offensive and defensive lines for a 3A team. But did little. The talent has been there, so there has to be a reason why it doesn’t turn into wins

This post still gets rubbed for 3yrs. Things have changed a lot at Emerald. Just think some fans had them to win 2 games. Tad and staff has changed the mindset at Emerald. Have impacted kids lives in a positive way. The Support has to be ramped up at middle school and JV level to get the trickle down effect. Greenwood county as a Whole is down in Football at all schools in my opinion.

Would seem that way. All the programs are struggling it seems. Not sure Football is as important in Greenwood county as people (Old Heads) think it is. I have always heard if you want to see what people think is important follow their money and their time. Well I think Liner and Dubose get paid pretty well, but I think both teach 2 classes, so time is not there. Not sure what the assistant pay is, but that is where a program is built on the pay of the assistants. Can they recruit good assistants, and keep good ones. I have no Idea, but I think that is how Dabo keeps a staff, money. I know High School and College are different, but maybe they are not as different as some may think. I am guess that Dubose is doing about as good as one can do at Emerald. Guessing he will be down a little this year, but hopefully will improve through time.

It gets bumped because there's no reason to start another thread.Atown97 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:00 amThis post still gets rubbed for 3yrs. Things have changed a lot at Emerald. Tad is a great defensive coach and an even better man. I just don't think he's the right guy for the job over there. They need someone that can get into the other parts of the community and bring those kids in.
He inherited a team with a lot of high character kids because the previous regime stopped caring about helping out the kids that were at a crossroads a season or two before he took over. Those kids were all recruited by service academies (and The Citadel) which says a lot about strong character and Tad definitely has a play in that.
Emerald won't separate themselves in 3A if they don't get a portion of their kids off the street and onto the field for all four years. It's what's hurt them the most for pretty much the lifetime of that program. He hired a bunch of good ole boys in plugged them into an environment that does not respond to that - Scruggs found that out pretty quickly with the basketball program.

9-21 over three seasons with an expected down season ahead should not be the standard in a school that has size and athletes aplenty.DawgBulleyes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:59 amI am guess that Dubose is doing about as good as one can do at Emerald. They had strong assistants from 2013-2017 and those were great seasons - playoff teams, region champions, deep playoff runs.
Frate, who is now the head coach at Wren, was their DC for a couple seasons. The loss of Chris Deal was insurmountable. He connected with those kids on a different level. Miller, who left for GHS is one of the best OL coaches in the upstate. They had Buffkin from McCormick and Brian Neal for a stretch. They had some younger coaches that went all over the city and got kids to come out. Good assistants didn't stay because the grass is probably greener. Tons of coaches with HC experience or qualifications were there, obviously. Unsure if Tad is having a difficult time attracting talented assistants because of the mess that McMahon made. He knew how to hire them, but couldn't keep them.

Not sure how you came to this conclusion, but Emerald football absolutely does not have the same resources that Greenwood does.Redraider66 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:08 pmI would have to agree. The head coaches get paid well. That's really the only commonality.
