atown just reloading. thought nichols was taking off to the land of woodruffs, but that didn't pan out. new year same story, the road to the state championship will run thru abbeville.
strom thurmond will be much improved this season from what i've been told. saluda lost a lot but their coach always finds a way to figure things out.
whatever happens, i just hope it's a true public school that takes the title.
Why did you think he was taking off to Woodruff? Just curious. Did he apply for the job?
Yes, he did. I know that for a fact. He was scheduled for an interview then withdrew from consideration before he did the interview.
Curious as to WHY he would even consider leaving A Town
We pay $100K a year.

This.
Maybe the only district in the Upstate poorer than Abbeville is McCormick. Coach Nick is just trying to take care of his own, and you can't blame him. Compared to how successful he has been and what he is paid is crime, but the county can't do any more. The district has to borrow money every year to pay salaries for the 1st half of the school year until property taxes come due and are paid at the end of the calendar year. And when you look at the size of the county and wonder, remember farms only have to pay the homestead exemption rate on all that acreage. Once the cotton mills started closing, it only made things worse.
The district has tried to consolidate for the past 40 years, but the Due West and Calhoun Falls people have fought it tooth and nail. And that's a crime too b/c of the lost opportunities it could have provided for all those kids that have since graduated. The district can barely maintain the schools. When it finally called it quits on CF and the locals still wanted to keep the school and make it a charter, the district basically cut it's loses and gave it away.
It's a great town with great people, but the financials situation is what it is. Abbeville has won a titles in AAA, AA and A, so it will continue to shine. Coach Nick loves the 'Ville and only wants the best, but if he could set himself up with a better financial situation he would. And you can't blame him.
He would have been gone a long time ago if the decision makers at the schools he has applied for weren't idiots and thought he could only run an 'old fashion offense'. But all the better for the 'Ville, Coach Nick will have a chance to break Big John's championship record.
